Uncomfortable front passenger seat

I posted this concern in another threads some time ago, but the wife reminded me this weekend we need to do something.

Riding in the front passenger seat of my '08 GT is very uncomfortable. We both get the sensation that the seat cushion is tilted forward. It feels like you're going to slide forward, off the seat cushion. I am over six feet tall, and wife is under 5.5' tall; totally different body frames, yet we both dislike riding in the front passenger seat. Have adjusted the seat to no avail. No adjustment on the seat cushion available. On longer trips the wife usually rides in the back. (hum-maybe I don't want to fix this...LOL)

Anyone else have this concern? I am thinking about having the dealer look at the seat mountings. Feels like we could uses some spacers inserted at the front seat mounts to raise the front of the seat cushion. Don't want to mess with seat mounts on my own and screw up any safety sensors.

Any suggestions? Anyone else experience this?

Otherwise we love the 9....

Both of you should go to the dealer and try sitting in a used CX-9 in the lot.. that'll let you know if its a design issue or a problem unique to your vehicle.

+1

May just be the seat. FWIW i'm 6'2" and have no issues with my passenger seat. I have noticed that the seat bottom is on the short side for my long legs though, but that's quickly corrected by tilting up the bottom. Then again our CX-9 only has 7K on it.

dj - Will stop by dealer soon and give it a shot.
Antonio - My '08 'powered' front passenger seat only adjusts forward and back. And the seat back tilts. That's it...no bottom tilt up and that's what it needs.

Thanks for the inputs!

Get a level and see if the seat actually does tilt forward!

We also have an 08 GT, and the passenger seat doesn't bother my wife or I. It adjusts like yours, i.e. no tilt or up/down motion. I could see how someone might think it is tilting down, though, the way the dashboard curves down sort of gives an illusion that you're looking down on it. Combine that with short seat cushions, your legs tend to dangle off.

Hi...knowaczark, just wondering if you ever solved the front passenger seat problem? My husband and I just bought a 2012 cx9 GT, and I have the same problem. I am miserable in the passenger seat (the headrest pushes me forward too), and need to find a solution...fast.
Thanks!

Make your husband sit in the passenger seat...

In our 09, the passenger seat is slightly higher than the drivers seat, allowing for many a bumped head until used to that oddity! Why Mazda didn't give the CX 9 two front adjustable seats,God only knows!!!!

Duh... I should have looked further down the forum. I replied to the concern earlier and didn't realize you replied to my original post.

Anyways, no solution to this annoying problem.

Some day i'm gonna take that seat out and see what can be done to alleviate this problem. I hate ... LOATHE sitting in that seat.

I really haven't looked to closely. Always forget about this annoyance when tinkering in the garage. Could the seat bolts be loosened, then shim up the front? I have no idea how the seats are bolted in. The passenger seat is so annoying.
