two Q's about MSP...

1. I'm scared about this color. Reading about how some people see pink in it, doesn't exactly get me excited to see it. For those that have actually seen it...... is there a pink hue? When looking at some pics, I do see a hue of pink....I think.

2. The center console. I wonder how hard it would be to swap the center console, where the cup holders and shifter are ( the silver section) with the one in the mp3? Any insight? What about where the leather sleeve on the shifter looks like it's attached to the silver section?

Why? Because I like mine better. The ability to cover up the cup holders is nice just in case you want to hide something in there right quick. And, it makes it different from the P5.

1. I saw the car in person. I really like the color and I'm more of a conservative. I saw absolutely no pink in it. If anything, in light, the metallic flakes turn goldish. If this car weren't going to be my daily driver, I'd probably get the orange. I think you'll be happy with it.
2. I only sat in the car for a minute and I've never been in an MP3 but my roommate has an '02 EX and the console looked identical to the EX.

newf,
saw the orange color and did not see a "pink hue" indoors. Now, it you saw it outdoors it might be different. As far as center console...suggest you do a search. just my $0.02.

switching the center console is simple man, it pops right out, just lift the cup holder thing, and pull up kinda on the back of the cup holder, it should just pop right out. i dont know if the colors match though, so yea.

I saw a whole bunch of the mps's at the yards in B.C. I walked around them for about 15 minutes at the beginning of dusk. I saw no pink. I was a little concerned about the colour as this will be my every day ride .... summer and winter.... and I use it for work which involves going on calls to people's houses. I wondered about the bright orange car pulling into people's driveways. After seeing them I have no more fears. It isn't a garrish, dayglo orange, its really nice on the eyes and shifts from a sort of burnt orange to one with gold flashes. I thought the paint showed real quality and depth, and I can't wait to see it in my drive!(yippy)

I have personally seen the MSP up close and personal at the autoshow.....I believe where people get this idea is the fact that the paint appears to have somewhat of a pearl coat, note the previous post about "the metallic flakes turn goldish".

As for the console.....since the base car has not changed....you could easily change out the entire console and put the style that is in your MP3 in the MSP....you can NOT, however, just change out the cupholders/shifter area.....its been tried....the clips that hold it in are not in the same locations....we looked at that a long time ago...when the 2003's first came out.

I kind of like the open cup holders that came in the 2002.5 Protege mid-cycle refresh...

I know what you mean about the cup holders closing on the MP3, I like that too. It makes things look nice and smooth when shut, but I kind of like the open look too.

And as posted already, you would probably have to change the entire center console, not just the little cover area at the shifter and cup holders.

Thanks guys. This site kicks ass. I can get answers here so quick here I don't even bother with the dealers anymore.

That's sounds promising about the paint. Does it have a bronze 'ish' type color to it, or more of a Pumpkin type orange? Depending on the picture I look at, it looks like both.

But, it doesn't sound like I can replace that cover on the console. Looking at the up holders on the new 2003's, they look taller. SO, I'm guessing the mp3 cover won't fit on it, and of course the clips. thanks Sir Nuke.

I saw the car in person, and I can tell you that the color is ass ugly. I just don't think orange is a good car color, to each his own though, but it makes me want to vomit just looking at it.

Tell us how you really feel.

That's about it. The part about the paint that I really don't like is that it reminds me of one of those cars in a rap video. With as much metalic flace as they put in that paint, they should have put 100 spoke wire rims on it and some chrome curb feelers on the side. Seriously, it's that ugly. The worst part is that as soon as you open the hood, guess what, the metal flake disappears. They didn't carry over the metal flake into the engine bay. I didn't look at the door jams though, if they didn't do it in the engine bay though, I would make sure to look at the door jams.

I have seen the color on the car many times, and in various different weather conditions, and I think it looks great. When I was first told it would be orange I was kind of skeptical, but after actually seeing them in person it looks good.

I've heard under the hood, trunk and all the door jambs are non-metallic. It's about the only complaint I've heard from the manager at my dealer who saw and drove the MSP (other than the fact they don't have any yet.)
