Two Options

Option 1-
Go with the fake wheels and get these upgrades:
SU Test Pipe- 200
Cpe Mount- 138
HKS Hipower exhaust- 589
Mazdaspeed CAI- 357
H&R Coilover- 1124.95
Camber Links- 239
Wheels+Tires- 1250
about 4000

Option 2-
Get the real Volks ( ce28n ) and tires, but most likely nothing else except the mount and maybe the CAI
Should be around 3500

And one question:

With option 1, is there anything that I should be adding to go along with the upgrades?

Lets see...you asked which option...I said to decide for yourself...not sure why people make threads like this...why let others make decisions for you...

Friends don't let friends ride on Rotas!!! Except Rotas do the job, and you can get ALL those upgrades along with the "fake" wheels. Or you can get the real deal, and say you're BALLIN'! Until you curb them, and hate the world for it.

Well, I'll go ahead & be "that guy." It all comes down to what you'll enjoy more. I just ordered wheels, and I got the cheapest wheels that fell under 18 lbs & looked decent to my eye (5Zigen FN01R-C Hot Version, Silver) so that I could spend any leftovers on other goodies. I don't obsess over wheels, though, and I know some folks do.

If having the Volks on your car will absolutely moisten your shorts every time you see them for the next 3-5 years, I suppose it's worth it. For me, I get more satisfaction out of tossing a car thru twisties, and will be spending my savings on handling upgrades or a CAI.

It really boils down to deciding whether you prefer performance or looks- do what makes you happy, man.

In your case, go for option 2.

Since you are seriously considering spending a lot of money on wheels (i.e. cosmetics), performance upgrades would be a waste of money.

depends on how much you love wheels. i would much rather go for some wheels that are rare and unique. the volk CE28N are nice but everyone and their mom has em so might wanan go for something else. but if thats what you really wanna get so be it.

I'd rather go with performance over show any day ...
But like matsuda said, if you even consider spending that kind of money on that type of wheels then you probably should go with the wheels.

I personally like the stock wheels on the MS3. No plans of changing it except get some winter wheels.

Most defidently option #1. Hands down, without a doubt. I think you'd be much more happier balancing things out like that. "Fake" wheels still are pretty cool and get the job done. I don't see what all the fuss is. I like rotas and am looking to get a set for my car.

The two options for the wheels are rota DPTs or Maxxim deadlines. Someone on the ************ has the deadlines ( just not on a speed ) and they look pretty good.

Thanks for the inputs.

What are "fake" wheels? They square or somethin? Made out of clay? Only exist in 3rd dimensions. Not like your talking a "fake" hoodscoop or what have you. Option #1. Screw wheels that are worth more than my protege.

knockoffs, you know like the fake Nike's and LV purses. the real company spends the money and does all the R&D then a company like Rota comes along and copy's the other companies designs and sell cheap "fake" wheels.
its a joke. if there were no "real " companies, the "fake" ones would be out of business. after all who would they copy from? they sure as hell dont design their own wheels.
