Twm Or Kartboy Short Shifter?

I forgot the post that mentioned how/where i can get the Kartboy bushings - please re-post!

T'anks!

You can go here to order Kartboy.com. I was just there, and some of the links aren't working...but try it out. I, too, am looking into a short-shifter. When looking at the two, I chose the TWM because for some reason (to me) the quality of the product looks better. An I read some high praising reviews for the TWM.

I have the Kartboy SS & Bushings on my P5. I was a little nervous about installing them myself, as I have very little car knowledge,(working on them, that is), but I couldn't believe how easy it was! Me and a buddy did both in under an hour.

One thing I noticed though. When removing the center console, the 2 screws in front(by driver and passernger legs), I had to break the caps covering the screws. They look to be one time only snap ons that must be broken to get to the screw. not a big deal, but now the tops of the screws are exposed. Purely an asthetic(sic?) gripe, but a gripe nonetheless. Anyone else have this problem?

No problem with the little caps, just popped mine off and popped them back on when I was done installing my Kartboy shifter...

Hello
we had a server issue the other day. soem bonehead plowed into the tranformer near the shop and killed all the power. when the power was fixed it fried our firewall. which in turned killed the site for a while...

luckily it was a SUV that wrecked not a P5 or a RS :)

everythings working fine now. spend away :D
happy holidays

Got my KB shifter and bushings for Xmas. Got it from my M-I-L believe it or not. Can't wait to put it in. Later(yellowp5)

your mother in law.. omg... LOL

anywho i have the kartboy shifter+ bushings, got a hellva deal, i love the shifter. but if i had a choice i would definatly get the TWM since its shorter but it doesn't really justify the price. so get the KB shiter and bushings and you will not be disapointed.

question beaten to death but - will the stock knob fit the kartboy shifter?

The stock Protege 5 and sedan knob will, the MP3 knob will not.

Been busy all weekend so no time to put shifter in....been searching for install instructions, but doesnt look to hard. Hit the interstate yesterday with my exhaust and shaved it right through, so will get that fixed, and while it is on the rack I will trim the heat shield with a plasma cutter. Rather do that than knock the hell out of it:) Can't wait though:)

TWM v. Kartboy

TWM - the quality of the shifter "looks" better. It is nickel plated for ultra low friction and extreme corrosion resistance. It comes with CNC machined billet aluminum heat sheild spacers so you don't have to do any modding to the heat shield. TWM also sends your instructions. ($122.00 USD)

Kartboy - it's machined from 4130 Cr-Mo Steel (not sure what that means). From the looks, the demensions seem to be the same - 2" shorter for p5, 1" shorter for MP3. I'm not sure if there is a difference in the length beneath the ball-joint.($90.00 USD)

Verdict - If you're tight on money, go with the Kartboy. If you're receiving it as a gift, ask for the TWM.

Side note - Kartboy also sells bushings ($25 USD)which will crisp up the shifting. Kartboy also sends you a Jolly Rancher with your orders, but I did not receive any install manual with the bushings.

Or, if you have the money, get the Kartboy and the bushings and still spend less than the TWM, get just as quality product, plus you get candy!:D

KB super combo

Hey all, I don't want to beat this to death, but I think it's a good deal, especially coming from cheap ass me.

I e-mailed Kartboy and asked them if they would consider doing a combo package for their ss/bushing/knob like the one they do for the Subs. They e-mailed me back the next day and added that option to their website. Man, that's service. So order away, at $135 for the combo, we save $20. It was $142 to my door (sometime next week) USPS priority 3 day.

I am in no way a paid spokesperson for KB, just a future satisfied customer!

I would love to get the shifter and bushings, however they say on their website that they don't ship anywhere outside of the U.S. which is a problem for me seeing as how I'm in Canada!! It would appear that all of their resellers are American-based as well, so am I S.O.L?? It's really not that hard to put a package on Greyhound Courier or UPS for a different fee than you would for U.S deliveries you would think! Help us Canadian P5 lovers out, Kartboy!

You can still get it. There is a company (forget the name) down in the "Authorized vendors" section that can send you the Kartboy stuff...

--- Edit ---

Tokigi Racing will ship to Canada for Kartboy stuff...

This may sound like a dumb question, but can't I just take a hack saw and cut my shifter and reinstall with a Momo (or something similar shift knob that screws in? What advantage do you get for buying a tru "short shifter"?

By doing that you're only changing the length above the pivot. The Shortshifter are longer beneath the pivot, changing the lever action.

Go to www.twmperformance.com They have pictures of stock vs. short shifter.

I emailed Togiki Racing a while back about group buys and whatnot, and it seemed like he wasn't going to be getting any more in for sale (for just the group buy? Or EVER? I'm not sure..)

Hi All,

I just installed the KB SS super combo. WOW. I wish I could get a kit like this for my other car, but it wouldn't help too much b/c it's cable shift.

Man, I cannot believe what a diff. It's a little stiffer, but you could also say that it's more positive. I didn't get a jolly rancher, but I did get a tootsie pop, sticker, patch and a t-shirt! Man, that's some kinda shwag! I'll be sportin...

Install took about an hour for the whole thing. One suggestion is to get a snap ring plier. Try and find one that addjusts to pull and push. If you have an import tool store in town, you should be able to get them for cheap. Makes the install very fast.

I also cheated a little on the bushing install and just cut the old one off. One thing on this part, my whole stud got unscrewed because I didn't clean the thread before I took the nut off the stud. Just be careful when screwing the stud back on so that you don't bottom out the nut before the stud gets on there all the way.

Hey man, do you have any pics of the shift knob? I' about to order the SS and the bushings but I'm still not shure about the knob. Do you think it's worth the extra 30$?

Thanx-
