Turn Off Radio

I just got a new 2017 GT with Premium package. I love all the gadgets but can't figure out how to turn off the radio! Is there a way to just turn it off? I figured out how to mute it, but will that also mute the navigation and phone calls? I haven't had a chance to check that, but it seems like the only way. Weird? Any help would be appreciated.

It's the only way. Yes, it mutes everything.

Are you serious? That's ridiculous. So your telling me that if I want a little peace and quiet while driving but still want to use the navigation and phone, I can't do it?

I never thought about it that way.
LOL
If you set your input to phone and don't play anything from it, that will give you what you want. Silence. Phone and Navi work.

Good idea. It just seems incredible to me that they can't make an off switch.

Is this a change for 2017?? I can turn the radio off and it doesn't mute the phone or NAV. In my 2014.

The other option is to actually turn the volume to zero. This is handy because in certain instances after hanging up a phone call, the radio automatically comes back on. Having it to zero negates this problem.

I should have said BT. Too many ways to connect a phone nowadays.

The volume knob on the 2016 and up Mazda Connect System, controls whatever source is currently coming over the speakers. It treats MUSIC source separate from NAV source and Bluetooth Source...

For example, you are listenening to RADIO, and have a NAVI route plan running also: When the NAVI Voice is speaking a command, adjusting the volume knob during the NAVI's speech, will adjust the NAVI VOICE volume only, and NOT the Music volume... and vice versa.

When making the volume adjustment, the volume graphic on the display will show you what source you are adjusting by displaying the source ICON in the Volume graphic window.

This is indeed correct.

VW does this in a smarter way. If you set the volume to zero, the system pauses your music. No sense letting the music play on at zero volume is there?

True but an even better option would be an off switch with memory to remember where the song was up to [emoji3]

Why not set your input to something besides radio? If the input is radio, then you hear radio, unless you mute it. To turn the radio "off," turn the selection to aux, or bluetooth, or.....?

I guess I never considered this would be a problem. I spend 99% of my time with bluetooth as my audio input anyway, so it's easy to have silence. Just don't play anything on your phone. But Aux would work fine, too.

So how do you turn it off, or NOT in a pre 17? If you can't, it's another silly penny pincher in this vehicle (they're everywhere and so far their added up cost to complete would be less than a $1).

It's driving my girl crazy because she's anal about turning off everything before shutting the car down...
