Yeah, could have done the oil pan ahead of time, but I'd need to drain the oil a couple times instead of once to do it that way.. no thanks.
Plus, all that is MSP about my setup is manifold and turbo, corksport downpipe, and the hardlines for the coolant (and the silicone coolant elblow). the oil lines, coolant return line, vtcs removal, getting to the oil supply, wiring up 4 gauges, installing the FMIC and getting it to sit properly, relocating radiator fans, installing my MSP pedals (I did it during my turbo install to take a break and do something easy). Plus I had to fabricate an intake.. I wasn't about to purchase a stock MSP intake, nor was I willing to spend 300 dollars on some little piece of piping with an injen sticker on it.
Oh and I also changed my timing belt, took off my underdrive pulley, changed my other belts, painted my intake manifold flat black, installed the msp engine cover + brackets, removed the radiator to give more room during the install, installed the clutch (pulled the tranny.. and battery, strut tower brace, tons of wiring, etc), installed new radiator hoses, pulled the bumper (for fmic install and to prevent scuffing it up), installed a new ecu, and I'm sure quite a few other things that I'm forgetting at this time.. all working by myself.
don't try to tell me I could have done all that in a day haha. I wish! Working on the car and realize you need a special bolt for something on the downpipe? oh wait, it's a Sunday, the fastener shop isn't open on the weekend.. crap like that wastes time. I didn't anticipate breaking bolts, gaskets not fitting, needing a 45deg oil fitting instead of a straight one, etc.
The thing is, I gave my time estimate not making all sorts of assumptions like you did.. don't assume everyone knows what they are doing, for 90% of us this is our first turbo car and first turbo installation. Yeah, I have friends that know a lot about cars, but none who would even attempt this sort of thing. Plus, those friends are 6+ hours away back home while I was sitting in my cold garage bay at college with a little propane heater doing this.
Congrats, you have experience, so it'll take you a lot less time. When all you've done in the past is electrical, bolt-on, or little things like cams and junk, the turbo install is a totally different magnitude.
