Trigger pulled

There is a key inside the key fob, which you might be able to have cut anywhere.

When I did my first oil change at 1000 miles, I went with 5w30 Mobil 1. I'll continue to use it when I change the oil every 5000 miles.

edit: Were the holes for your front plate predrilled? I live in NC and we don't require front plates and there were no predrilled holes in the front bumper.

The whine

Thanks for the reply. Cool.

The "thunking" in the bottom 3 or 4 gears... I'll say this, I have VERY sensitive hearing, if there was some kind of "scary" mechanical noise, I would have noticed it... I do not remember hearing any "abnormal" noises with shifting.... I wasn't specifically listening for it though... but I never heard anything that made me concerned. If there was a thunking, my brain likely processed it as a normal type sound. Next time I take the car out, I'll focus on it and let you know what I hear.

Talking about noises... my car does have two slight "rattles", one is coming from the front dash glovebox area, sounds like maybe part of the dashbaord or behind the dashboard (I did not have anything in the glovebox at the time)... but the sound is minor, almost not worth complaining about... perhaps an easy fix anyway.

The other "rattle" is coming from somewhere in the rear. I actually grabbed the rear spoiler wing and wiggled it up and down and it DID make a pretty loud "creaking" type noise, this may be what I'm hearing when I drive the car... it seems that the spoiler is merely "rubbing" against the hatch slightly and making a noise, if this continues to be an issue maybe I can loosen the spoiler and just slide a thin piece of rubber or something in the area that is is making the noise... but, neither of these noises are bad, the average person would be blasting their stereo and wouldn't even hear them.

Another interesting sound I notice at idle... a VERY high pitch whine... but very faint.... I think a lot of people might never even hear this... it's not a "whine" as in some type of mechanical issue, but more of an electronic sort of sound... extremely high frequency... and steady pitch.... only at idle. This is with the radio off by the way. I'd say it's something related to the electronics. Wonder if anyone else has noticed this. It's an annoying sound, but it's so faint that I cannot complain about it. It ultimately does not bother me. Again, I have extremely sensitive hearing, I hear things that a lot of people cannot hear... I happen to be a professional audio engineer, I get paid to hear better than average. If there's a noise in a car, I'll defintely hear it... a blessing and a curse.

I'll report back on the shifting "thunk"... again, I very well may have observed this but just perceived it as a "normal" mechanical sound and thus did not even pay any mind to it.

You maybe hearing the electric motor for the steering.

UGGHHH YES. (smash) makes me furious that they drilled them because i don't use a front plate and looky there...2 huge gaping holes in the front fascia.

Friggin dealers.

For what it's worth regarding Mobil 1 full-syn...I have used it in various weights in 5 cars and have NEVER been impressed. In all of those cars Mobil 1 seems to disappear slightly over time. In the same cars I have used Redline, Amsoil, and Royal Purple and none of them have ever burned a drop.

My .02

But what does oil "disappearing" have to do with the quality of the oil itself? I don't think this is a way to measure oil quality.

I will mention that between oil changes my Vette never loses a drop (always Mobil 1 5W-30). I've never had to add oil to that car. Actually, no, that is not true... I once went on a 7,000 mile cross country trip, in some cases drove a steady 95mph for hours on end in 95 degree heat (across Montana, etc), did a lot of extreme mountain carving, WOT up steep hills at high rpms etc... after the 7,000 mile trip I think I was down a little less than a half quart... I think that's pretty darned good considering. If I were to rate oil on how quickly it disappears per miles and conditions, my experience with Mobil 1 would show that it is absolutely excellent.

Is Mobil 1 worse, as good or better than Redline, Amsoil etc??? Have no idea. I run Mobil 1 in the Vette since this is the oil designated for use in that car by GM.... yeah, it's all marketing, but I'm happy enough just following their recommendation. And I'll probably use Mobil 1 in the MS3 too because it's simply convenient, I usually stock up on Mobil 1 for the Vette so I have a lot of it sitting around. If it wasn't for the turbo, I'd probably just use regular oil in the MS3... but the fact that even the Mazda manual states to let the engine idle for 30 seconds after a hot run (to cool the oil in the turbo) shows me that this car could use an oil that's a little better than straight dino.

In the many reviews, oil analysis results, etc it would seem that Mobil1 ranks below the other premium syn oils. I've never done any tests other than compare fuel mileage, engine noise, and oil loss...and in my tests Mobil1 always scores the worst. Redline and Amsoil seem to be the sweet oils for me, showing better MPG, reducing valve clatter, and never burning a drop between changes in any of my cars.

Once again, just my .02...YRMV.

A lot of us stay away from Mobil1. I know myself and 3-4 others close to me with speeds are running Penzoil Platinum. Little better rating than Mobil1. I have never noticed any oil burn at all. I usually take my oil and filter to the dealership and pay them the $15 to change it for me. Keeps it on record and lets me get a syn oil change for $40 instead of close to $100. The Penzoil Plat is usually quite a bit less expensive than Mobil1 and often on sale at Walmart for $20 for 5 quart jug.

I have given Mobil1 more than enough chances to impress. Multiple oil changes in multiple cars, always with the same results. It's convenient to buy, since it's available everywhere...and it's not terribly expensive. But I've even seen better results in mileage and burn-rate with Castrol GTX dino oil than Mobil1.

I'll likely go with Amsoil for the Speed3. It really made my other turbo cars happy.
