Traveler's header

looks like a well made header, good clean welds. But, those stock "cats" are gonna mess you up on the power #'s. a 4-2-1 or even 4-1 would really be the way to go. but beside all that, lookes really good. maybe in the future you could convert it to a turbo manifold :D

Holy s***.... that's freeking gorgeous!! :D

I just emailed Traveler... I want one. He didn't respond to my PM on the other board either (several weeks ago.) Hopefully I'll get a response this time, as I'm ready to buy NOW.

Look'n good freekwonder!! (thumb)

not to upset anyone but ....

how is that supposed to increase performance ?
dont get me wrong i think he did a nice job from the pics but i just dont understand the need for it when the stock pre cat will still be incorporated

travlers car got a pick of 7lbs of torque and about 5 or 6 horsepower. but he also picked up all through out the power band form about 2500 and up. i know this wont give me the gains like a 4-2-1, but i dont want remove my cat until i can get a goood high performance one. plus im saving for a turbo anyways. and like people are saying this can be convertered to a nice turbo manifold. even though we dont have sniffer tests here, we still have visual inspections and wanted to keep my cat. hopefully i can get it on soon this is killing me.

Hey guys. Sorry I'm not answering on the other forum right now. My email is Ursam128@aol.com The cs.com addy won't work. It just goes into limbo. I've been busy studying for my last ASE test and haven't been on much lately. I'm taking L1 in May and that kind of has priority right now. As for power numbers, I did before and after numbers last year (end of April) and posted them here then. I don't remember the threads the dyno numbers are in, but I'm happy with mine. I made 7.8 lb/ft of torque more at the torque peak which was actually 250 rpm LOWER than the manifold. HP gain started about 3500 and was 3-5 more all the way up but kept going after 5750 where the stock manifold signs off. Before my max power was at 6000 at 107.3 HP, and with the header the max was at 6250 with 113.4. It kept the torque longer also. The torque was still 101.6 @ 6000 rpm with the header versus 93.9 with the manifold. My mileage is still holding at around 35 mpg on the highway and 29-30 in town. Depends on my right foot though...

I'll try to keep up with messages but I'm doing better at email right now. I'm kind of pissed off at our Mazda dealer right now so I'm thinking about getting rid of ours. I work at a Subaru/Volvo/BMW dealer and I'll probably be able to get a screaming deal on the '03 Suby WRX's when the 2004's arrive.

We had a CEL come on last week and took the car in today to have it checked. The dealer said we had a bad MAF, BUT REFUSED TO FIX IT UNDER WARRANTY. They said that my aftermarket air cleaner caused it to go bad. I pointed out to them that it has been on the car for an entire year and has caused no problems up until now. They said that quote "we called Mazda technical and they said that any aftermarket air filter such as a K&N or oiled gauze type filter voids the warranty for the MAF sensor". I pointed out that they don't seem to cause a problem with other cars and that Mazda Proteges have a known problem with MAF's (we have a 13 year Mazda master tech that just came to our dealership). They said no matter what, they won't honor warranty at their shop.

We have another dealer in town that I'm taking it to, but I'm thinking of trading it in. My dealer has said no to warranty for any kind of mods. They even tried to say that any exhaust mods that reduce the backpressure from stock would void warranty on certain engine sensors. They charged me a half hour diagnostic time and wanted me to pay $345 for a new MAF. I told them if they made me pay for any of it, I'd never be back and I'd tell EVERYBODY that would listen. So, here it is

Foothills Mazda in Spokane WA sucks ass! Nice sales people, but the service department is looking for ways to deny warranty. If they'd just replaced it instead of calling Mazda technical, there would have been no problem. Instead, they ****** me. There is NO EVIDENCE of any kind of oil in the MAF. I pointed that out also, and they said "that it isn't visible". **** them.

It will be sad to see you go. You do realize you could make a killing off of us poor saps who want a full length header, right? I mean, aftermarket companies keep saying "next month" and I still see no available header. You make one, and you got yourself 100 sales easy. Probably double that.

Traveler,

Sorry to hear about the MAF mishap. Seems some dealer service guys are obviously alot cooler than others. Don't give up hope yet! If you lived any closer to me, Byer's Mazda/Subaru would take care of you (I'd help see to that.) Who knows... road trip?!! :D

Hope you got my P.M. request. I'd sure like to have one of your headers. ;)

Take care,
Jim

installed

after finally getting some time to do it, I got the header installed. I love it. you can feel the pick up in the mid range up. Im going to get some of my friends drive my car and see what they think about it. a couple bolts are a little tough to get to, but you can get them. It took me a couple hours to put it on and thats watching my son play at the same time. here are some pics of it.

oh ya on a side note. its not chipped or stain. I just need to clean off some of the gasket sealent material.

Careful with the sealant. If you get any into the exhaust, it can contaminate the O2 sensor. O2's and silicone DO NOT MIX. I'm glad you like it Freekwonder!
