Just wanted to share a bit of info with you if you don't already know. I have used a few different kinds of trans fluid. Mobil 1, redline, stock 75 90w, just to name a few. Now i am running pennzoil synchromesh and let me tell you this is the best one out there. I used to grind a bit going into second..GONE!! Now every gear change is a smooth as silk. So if your not using it already i recommend the change highly. Also i added equi-torq lsd additive. Just my opinion but if you are having hard gear changes give this stuff a try.....

well, i'm interested to know about how to do this...i thought you needed a pump or something...how -to?

I got one of those suction guns look like a grease gun but has a tube on the end. Then i just drained the old fluid and sucked the fluid out of the bottles and injected it into the fill on the trans. It takes about 4 quarts of fluid to fill the trans. Just fill it until it start coming back out of the fill hole.

yeah.i was more or less looking for pictures of the process since ihave no idea how to fill it up. or what the guns/etc look like.

yeah most definetly a how to thread on man trans flush would be awesome with pics. Theres a couple threads just saying how to do it but I need pics cuz its the first time ever for me to change tranny fluid. In the manual it says 2.9 qts. so thats an even 3. But then I called my mazda dealer and he said it'd be like 12-13 qts for a flush. I'm confizzled on this situation. I plan on doing a full tranny flush...Out wiss zee bad, in wiss zee good.

You might want to doublecheck with Pennzoil on that. A forum member emailed them a few months ago with a question, and the tech that replied told him to get the Syncromesh out of his tranny a.s.a.p. and put something else in. He said it has some specific applications and was not designed or recommended for our transmissions. I think he said it was incompatible with one or more of the metals used, like maybe the syncros. He forwarded a copy of the email to me because he saw Pennzoil Syncromesh in my sig, and I changed it that weekend.

It seemed to work very well for me, but I figure if a manufacturer would rather lose your business than to risk having their product damage your tranny, then you should take their advice seriously. Somebody ought to contact them again and see what they say.

The syncromesh is the same as gm's it works fine in all manual trans's. The only metals it is specified for is the softer ones like brass. I cannot forsee it doing any damage to our transmissions. Alot of my honda friends have run it for years with 0 problems.

trans fluid

12-13 qts isn't bad if you wanna flush it. that would be to fill it, then drain, fill then drain, and then fill finally. pennzoil syncromesh isnt bad for these trans at all. i talked to mazda and autozones computer says that syncromesh is basically good for the trans as well. and you know whats even better than the pennzoil, is the BG syncroshift. you'll never feel it run smoother until you run that oil. the mazdaspeed has it and i also run it in my talon, stopped high rpm grinding :)

sub'n im curious to see Pennzoil synchromesh vs Redline MT90 and some more info on equi-torq lsd additive, aswell as were to get it.

redline didn't work anywhere near as well as the synchromesh. And you can get any lsd additve equi torq is just one of them. Autozone has all of it.

Whats this guy saying synchromesh being bad for our cars? I dont want to harm my baby.(poke)

I'd email Pennzoil myself, but I won't have time till the weekend. I'm curious as to what they'd say and what reasons they would give.

keep us upto date on this thread pls :P

intersted.thank you sir.can't wait for the pics/write up.

Yeah i'm looking forward to the write up. I've got 3 qts of royal purple that I'd love to get in before the last michigan fun run of the year.

tranny flush

you really need a write up on a transmission flush?? theres a drain plug and a filler, what more is there to write up?? remove the filler, remover the drain, a thick (most likely black at the time) liquid will poor out. insert drain plug and fill thru the filler until it start pouring out of the top. then drive the car for 5 minutes and repeat until your satisfied. if you really need pics on 2 large ass plugs to drain your fluid....there's a problem.

I talked to a tech friend of mine at mazda and he said the synchromesh is fine for a transmissions. The only real difference is that synchromesh is a little thinner than 75 90w gear oil and makes easier shifting. It also does contain a few different additives but it won't hurt our trans.
