Tranny mount

Had my car at the shop few months ago and can't find the receipt but they changed motor mounts and not sure if transmission mount. But past month the if im drivin and accelerate and deaccelerate I can see the stick on the gearbox move back and forth. And past week I hear and feel a knock sometimes when I swtich from 1st to second. So should I assume it's the tranny mount? It's under the intake correct? And also should I jack up the transmission to check or replace?

I don't think the tranny mount will cause severe rocking on the engine. Plus the tranny mount, from my experience, are the least torn compared to the other mounts. That tells me that they see the least of the effect or they are designed better.

The rear mount is the bigger issue. Check your passenger mount too, I couldn't find a single P5 at the scrap yard that didn't have that mount torn.

My shifter rocks like that as well...and so did my old p5 that I had 6 years ago. I might be hearing a clunk when getting into third gear - but it might be in my mind. I am assuming the mounts are torn.

However, I'm thinking it will be ok as my old one did this from day one and I had it for almost 3 years.

Shoulda done this a week ago, gettin cold. Anyone know where to find a diagram or diy of the mounts?

The front one, you put your car on a level floor, without jacking the car, take off the 2 nuts on the front member under the engine mount. Then remove the through bolt, and remove the engine mount. Install is reverse of removal.

For the passenger side engine mount, slightly jack the car (just to support it with a 2x4 on the oil pan or on the A/C bracket. remove the nuts holding the engine mount to engine (17 or 18mm) then remove the engine mount from body, should be 14mm bolts or nuts.

Rear engine mount, remove intake manifold (multiple guides on doing this). Not sure if engine needs to be supported, but all you need to do is remove 3 nuts and a through bolt.

After finding these diagrams, I noticed that there is a roll damper on the front mount,... Is this included with a new front mount ?? Is it a separate purchase ??

It looks to me like this device would have a huge impact on stick shift movement and wheel hop ???

You do not need to remove intake manifold to do rear mount. it.might be easier but hardest part was getting the wire harness retainer out and the throughbolt. Just need to be creative with long sockets and swivel.

Not sure about roll damper. I seem to remember a rubber peice but not even sure it went back on after solid motor mount install.
Ps. Don't worry about saving the plastic wire keeper. Its really not needed.

I found this parts diagram from Online Mazda Parts, but it shows the roll damper on the REAR mount ???
It lists part #9 as a "rear mount bracket damper" and part #6 as a "dynamic damper" for a manual transmission ???

For those thinking of replacing their passenger side engine mount,... Keep in mind that there is a difference between the mount for the automatic and the manual transmission,... This pic shows the difference,...

Thanks PCB, I thought it was only the transmission mount that had the difference between the 2. Did you have to find that out the hard way?

No,... I just read up on what others have dealt with,.... Make sure the parts supplier asks whether it's for an automatic or manual or you don't know what you're gonna get,... some mounts don't come with that "pin" and you are supposed to install the old one in the new rubber mount,... that too turned out to be a pain.

I fixed my mounts the easy way,...

Im new to mazdas, and im glad to see that there are people who pass the norm off as optional and use every day items to fix their problems!

But the AC is just a little too far... hahah!

My "No.2 Engine mount bushing accepting the Rod from (1) Roller damper" is completely busted. Does anyone know what its purpose is and if I should bother to replace it?
