Searched, came up with nuthing. Installing a receiver hitch asap on my 8 hour old cx5 and I was wondering if anyone has done the wiring harness installation. I did one on my focus and I installed the "powered" version because there was a power supply back there and I didnt have to run a wire all the way up to the battery. I dont want to "fish" a wire that far on my new ride. per etrailer

Some trailer wiring harness 4-Way and 7-Way connectors require a power wire to be routed from the harness to the vehicle battery. The power wire is required on trailer wiring harnesses for some vehicles because the electrical system on those vehicles cannot handle the amperage draw associated with trailer lights. The power converters and ModuLites used in these applications connect to the vehicle battery to provide the power for the trailer lights, protecting the vehicle's sensitive electrical system. On vehicles that require a 7-Way connector, a power wire will typically be routed to the battery via a 40-amp circuit breaker to allow the 12-volt circuit in the connector to function.

curtmfg sells both versions powered and non powered for the cx5 my trailer just has two bulbs in the back, no side markers, just a crappy harbor freight trailer. I have not dug (yet) very far into my new car, maybe the taillights are LED? And the wires/circuit that powers them is teeny tiny?

Thanks in advance

Your 2016.5 Touring should have LED tail lights. I'd not worry about the capability of the wiring as they should be the same between LED and incandescent taillights as they're interchangeable. I'd use OEM trailer wiring harness kit. I remember some members outside the US used OEM trailer wiring harness which might be the culprit of triggering "SCBS Reverse Malfunction Warning Message" but it seems fine here since our SCBC doesn't work for reverse.
