Touring model -- tweeter wiring?

Sorry if already covered, couldn't find. --Anybody know whether the wiring up to the factory tweeter is a straight patch, continuous with the woofer wiring? I.e., no crossover? I was thinking of switching to a component system with crossover, installing that and the woofer but staying with the factory tweeter. Would be handy to know what the wiring is.

thanks in advance,
Steve

The woofer in the door actually plays full-range. On Touring models with the factory tweeters, the tweeters receive a full-range signal and have a high-pass cap on the back as a crossover. So yes, the wiring for the woofer and tweeter both receive a full-range signal. That said, the wiring path is not discrete for each; it's just a single pair of wires (positive and negative) that come into each door, then go into the woofer. The connector on the woofer then has wires that tap into the signal and run up to the tweeter location.

So how hard is it to fit the crossovers into the space behind the door panel? I saw in another thread you were about to do this some time ago. I'm starting to look at crossover size as a factor in choosing. There's an Infinity model with crossovers 2.2"x2.15"x1", roughly, and a Pioneer of a different shape, also small, 1.66"x2.5"x.85". Many crossovers are much bulkier. Thanks!

I don't know how well/where crossovers would fit behind the door cards, but on my old Mazda3 it was such a PITA (I ended up having to take the crossovers out of their casings and wrap the boards with a few layers of electrical tape, just to make them thinner) that I'm not sure I'd want to embark on that endeavor again. If I ever get the itch to swap out my factory speakers I'd look at the Alpine Type-S components, which have the crossover mounted to the woofer basket:
