OK, so I've finally cleaned out the garage after 2 years of saying I'll do it. And even put in a nice industrial looking shelf, and I'm gonna install a peg board soon. Until I realized all I have is a floor jack, 4 jack stands, and a set of hand tools. But I don't even know where to start on an automotives tool collection.

So I suggest we have a sticky with just a list of useful tools to keep around. Or recommended tool brands or models. Recommended socket heads etc..

-Set of Metric 6-point sockets, regular and deep well. Make sure you get sockets for a 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" drive.

-1/2" Drive Torque wrench, ft/lbs

-3/8" Drive torque wrench, in/lbs

-creeper

-Rubber mallet

-Ballpeen hammer

-Safety goggles

-Male torx bits, female torx sockets (1/4" or 3/8")

-Breaker bar

-Channel-lock pliers

-Needle nose pliers

-plain pliers w/rubber handgrip

-Side cutters or wire stripping tool with cutter

-15/30A soldering iron

-Gear wrenches (not a must, but omfg awesome)

-Combination closed/box end wrenches, metric and english

-Flat/phillips screwdriver set

-Voltmeter

That should be pretty good to start. Craftsman is pretty good, decently cheap, and warrantied for eternity. I'm sure i left out some, feel free to chime in.
