Tom Tom saving location

:
was 175ps Mazda CX-5 Auto AWD Sport Nav, now 190ps DSG Tiguan 4M
Is it possible to save the current location to favourites?
With my last car it was just a couple of button presses (a Nissan), with TT I cant see how to do it, the manual is of no help.

I can get the location up showing longitude and latitude, but can't work out how to save a location you are actually at.

You start from main Menu then Settings then Manage Favorites then Add then click right hand arrow for next page And there is "My Location" or in this case yours

Thanks Colin that's done it.

Got to say though its years behind the Nissan satnav I had.

Its route directions are ok though which is the main thing for getting from A to B.

edit
I've now found out how to make a quick link using the personalisation key on the lhs middle of the driving view map, so can save to favourites with only two key presses.

Sorry, a bit off topic. I drove a Seat Leon eco diesel thing last week (the worst car I have ever driven by a long way) which had a Tom Tom system. I thought it was crap compared to BMW HD sat nav. No detail when zooming out, auto zooms back in, plots the wrong route, poor graphics, had incorrect road details..........I could go on. I hope this is not the same unti that the CX-5 will use?

lol. That sounds like the one in the CX-5. No details when zooming out (and not much when zoomed in. It auto-zooms, but I did find out how to disable that under advanced settings. Now I get to choose whatever poor amount of detail I want. Graphics suck for the most part. The route planning is ok, but not great. I find that re-routing is a problem, it seems to try to get me back on the original route even if staying on the new route is better. I have to cancel the route and re-start a new one.

The CX-5 unit has 2 major issues. It supports traffic data, but for some reason, the traffic information disappears from time to time and the only thing that can get it back is pulling the SD card, waiting 1 minute, then re-inserting it. And that doesn't always work. This is very dangerous. I drove into a major traffic jam recently on 95 as I assumed traffic was part of the unit's planning on my route.

The second major problem I encountered today. As I was driving around Washington DC, which I am only somewhat familiar with the roads and traffic is horrible, my CX-5 Nav decided to freeze up! It totally locked up, and it was still displaying a static image. I missed my highway ramp and almost got in an accident. I pulled over, shut off the car, waited about 15 seconds and restarted. At that point, nav totally stopped working. Pressing nav button did nothing. I just used my phone's nav. Once I got home I turned the car off for a few minutes, came back, and started it up. The nav did come back, initializing from the start.

This is crazy. I am so disappointed. I plan to trade my car in very soon. Mazda does such a half assed job with their cars, I won't ever trust them again. Lost me as a customer. I know there isn't a lot of love for MyFord Touch, but at least Ford acknowledges the issues and has issued multiple patches with another one coming in August. Mazda has sort of acknowledged the issue and sort of said they might fix it. I don't have a lot of hope. I just have a lot of hate for Mazda now.

Have you read the warning on every single GPS unit ever sold? Don't freaking rely on it, or stare at it while driving.
If you've almost gotten in multiple car accidents while using the GPS in the car, that's not the GPS's fault. It's YOURS for not PAYING ATTENTION TO YOUR DRIVING!!!!!!!
If it screws up STOP TRYING TO FIX IT WHILE DRIVING!

fyi. traffic for US model Mazda GPS uses FM radio traffic signals, also you should not be pulling the SD card out while the car is on. It can get corrupted.

Also if you don't like it, feel free to rip out the GPS addon (where the SD card slot is) and sell it. Plenty of people looking for it. It retails for $550 from Mazda.

Ok nXT, I am being a bit over dramatic, but still not relying on it is one thing. They mean that it may not always be accurate. They never meant expect it to freeze while driving! I never 100% trust the GPS. This isn't the Office and I'm not driving into a ditch.

I never said I pulled the SD card when the car was on. I know it uses RDS. The problem is that the traffic sometimes just stops completely. I don't even get the bar on the right. It is just gone until I reset the unit.

I didn't try to fix it while driving, but I did tap the screen and it didn't respond. I don't consider that trying to fix it and at that point I didn't realize that it was froze.

So now you are being over dramatic and we can be over dramatic together. Bottom line is, the nav should never lock up under normal conditions! And their warning wasn't meant to cover that.

I don't like the whole infotainment system (iPod interface, Sirius issues, etc). I do plan to sell the car before the warranty is up and with the way I put miles on my car, shouldn't be too long.

Sounds exactly like the cx-5 Tom Tom.

Yep, agree, the Tom Tom leaves a LOT to be desired. My 7 year old external Garmin is SOOO much easier to use, has better detail, easier to use, snappier to redraw, etc. And my 2 year old Garmin is like a supercomputer compared to the Tom Tom. Voice command on the Tom Tom, except for address, nearly useless. POI database seems very limited so far (lots of stuff near me not in there). Not impressed at all.

That said, it's better than nothing I suppose, and although there isn't a lot of detail, I've seen way worse looking maps (Prius anyone, looks like Atari 2600 graphics). Not quite sure why I've never seen a car with the detail of say my Garmin 3710, the maps look so nice on that, lots of detail, smart zooming, etc.

I suppose it depends on what Garmin you have, I have a 1375T with traffic.

I find it no better than the Mazda TT, and rubbish compared to my previous Nissan.

Voice directions on the TT I am having to deal with at the moment, instructions such a turn right or left often mean follow the road bearing right or left.
My Nissan would say bear right or left.

But generally I'm happy with the Nav directions, even though I don't have as many options that the Nissan gave me.

Yes the directions themselves actually seem OK, which is why I'm mostly OK with the nav. But I do think it's about 5 to 10 years old compared to come of the fancy navigation that is available. For instance, every 'exit' shows up with the same picture of a bunch of buildings behind it, which makes me laugh since I've been out driving in the country. My Garmin actually has exit pictures that look surprisingly like where I am.

Again, if the thing gets us from point A to point B, great. I do think they have to fix the lifting of the safety lock for 'spoken' driving directions, I ought to be able to use voice command to enter an address while moving, this should have never been locked out.
