Soon time to take my car back out again so I'm looking to order a new set of tires and after a bad experience with the bridgestones I'm looking for something different, any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Pirelli P-Zero Nero M+S are good all season tires with similar traction, speed, and load ratings to the OEM Bridgestones, but they last almost 4 times as long. They are also one of the few that come in the exact size of the OEM tires.

summer tires

I had these on my '89 Ford Probe GT, and when my MS6 needs tires this is what I would love to put on it. A weee bit noisy, but the dry/wet grip on these things was just sick.

I bought my MS6 used with about 11K on it, and I've had no contact with the previous owner, but it has Kuhmo Ecsta ASX 225/40R18 all-season tires. Are these original tires for the southeast/midwest region? In any event, I like the tires, they are very grippy, not too loud, and have a treadwear rating of 420. $93 per at Tire Rack.

They come in the exact size as the OEM tires because they are OEM for the 6s GT, which uses the same size wheels as the MS6. The 215/45ZR18 size is only available with the Mazda6 specific version, which has a different tread pattern. They are amazing tires though, my 6 came with them as OE. I love them so much I bought a set of P-Zero Neros for Summer.

The Kuhmo's are not original equipment. Bridgestone Potenza RE050's are standard. They are "specially" made for the Mazda6's. They have an increased load rating, and special size. The stock size is 215/45/18. You have a slightly wider tire, and also, your diameter is slightly less. It doesnt hurt at all, and if you like them, then thats all you need.

Yeah, after I posted I saw the sticker on my door frame listing the tire size, so I figured I had new tires. Isn't the treadwear on the originals like 140?

I have a broken belt in one of my Kuhmos (ninja pothole---jumped right in front of me!) and I do like them, so I guess I'll be buying One as soon as we dig out from under this snow (6-12 inches predicted!)

Correct, the stockers are 140 treadwear. I have about 16000 on mine, and looks like they may last me till about 20000, but I drive like a grandma most of the time.

Kuhmos are notorious for sidewall bubbles - I had Kuhmo Summer Only tires on a Civic I had, and I was going through a tire every month because of the pot holes around in Jersey. Kuhmo used only a 1-ply sidewall which was the culprit, but damn, those things could handle and stick. Never so much as got a squeal out of those things if the temp was above 50 degree.

Try Tirerack.com - Even if you dont buy from them, you can see reviews on tires and whatnot.

Can i put 225/40 on my car??? that was one thing a tire dealership suggested i do and also has anyone had any experience with Cooper tires?? i'll get the exact tire a bit later

225/40R18 is no problem at all. Sidewall height for 215/45 is 96.75 mm. For 225/40 it is 90 mm, so it is a little lower profile.

Looking at Gettting

Cooper
Zeon zpt
215 45 18

or
Falken
Ziexze 512
225/40/18

Coopers and Falkens are junk IMHO. I have gone through every brand and style of UHP tires.

I highly suggest these. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Sizes.jsp?make=Sumitomo&model=HTR+Z+III

I have gone through Pole Positions (S03's), F1's, Re050, and many of the expensive top end UHP tires out there. The Sumitomo's beat them in almost every category, plus they cost a third of the others.

FYI: Sumitomo makes the F1's. So you know they make excellent tires.

Their HTRZ II are extremely good also, plus the HTR+ (all season) are absolutely great.

All of them are very quiet, very sticky (when up to temp') and very good wet grip (HTRZ II not as good as the III's).

Trust me on this, you'll be extremely happy with them.

Just my $.02

Decent looking tire and about $200 cheaper then the coopers i have on order even with a $201 shipping charge, But i'm wondering how long its gonna take me to get them
