Tires on PR5 question

WIll 205/45-16's fit OK on the stock alloys?
What size are the stock alloys? The tires I'm seeing
(Yok AVS ES100, for example) says 6.5-7.5" recommended width

The factory Dunlops suck - wet driving (FL) was always measured by pucker factor.

On the Turbo Beetle I had before the PR5 (2000, 1.8T, exhaust/chipped) I had a
set of cheap Dayton Daytona ZR's, and I could do 60-70 in rain before planing.
These OEM Dunlops were surfing at 30-40!

I looked at the Dunlop FM901's, but with a treadwear rating of 200, they'll wear out
quicker than my shoes!

Looking for some stickiness, but I will sacrifice a little stickiness to get more miles.

Suggestions?

Oh - totally stock PR5 - no springs or lowering (yet)

i'll look into some tires for you - Falkens are what I like and have sold in the past, but we can sell Toyo as well.

Lemme know soon as you can 2morrow. I need (2) for the front.

Damn Dunlops.

Backs are basically perfect. Fronts wore out like a beyotch - 15K miles (heh - in 10 mos)

Figuring to go up a bit maybe to help a little bit to counter the understeer. 10mm ain't much, but calc it all out, multiply it by 2 tires, and mebbe I get a couple extra inches of contact patch total, and maybe can do more than 20mph in the rain!

ps - if I don't respond, you can buzz me at 305.790.1555, if you aren't too far to ship to Florida affordably. I need 'em like this week bad - Fronts are bald on inside half.

check your pm's :)

Our stock alloys are 16X6, but from what I've seen, many 205/45/16 tires require a rim width of at least 6.5 inches, I definately know the Falkens do. You'll have to research. As for a tire opinion, I like my Falkens(Ziex) very much - mine are 205/55/15 mounted on 15X6.5 slipstreams. They are a bit robust, my next set will be 205/50. If you're looking for summer performance I like Falken's GrBFK451 tires too. The wear is pretty good but they are great in the rain.
