I'm looking to take my MSP out more this autocross season. I'd prefer to stay in stock class so don't want a tire that will put me out of that class. I'm looking at the Kumho Ecsta V700 tires as my competition tire but haven't found anyone yet that carries them in the stock size tires (215-45R17). Checked the Tire Rack website and only found a Pirelli tire that costs $200! I'm looking for something in the $140 range.

Anyone out there autocross their MSP? If so, do you run with competition tires? What tires are you running and what size? I know I may be able to get away with a slightly wider tire but wanted to see what the maximum width anybody's gone with.

Regards!

You won't find an r-comp that I can think of for under $180. One of Khumo's R-comps were just recently recalled, also but I can't remember if it was the V700 or not. It'll be VERY hard to find a good r-comp that is 215 thin for a 17" wheel. They usually tend to be 225+mm. IIRC 225 is the widest anyone has gone yet. Even the SWC touring car were running 225's.

check out what www.tires.com has, they offer free shipping

225/45 x 17 Kumho V700 Victoracers are about $130 each and fit at all four wheels. Team Dynamics Pro Race 1 wheels are $160 each and come in 17 x 7 with +50 offset, which is legal for SCCA Solo 2 competition. This is what I'm running this year after running the stock wheels and tires in Street Tire class last year. The stock wheels and tires work well in Street Tire and you can win events and learn a good deal about driving fast in autox with not much cost. That's what I'd recommend for your first year of competition.
