Tire Searching

I've done some searching and I've found a lot of people switching to the 225/40/18. I believe that the 235/40/18 would be a closer fit to stock and keep the speedo more accurate. I'm wondering if anyone has been running this size.

Another thing is tire choice. I've gotten around 35k miles on the Bridgestones and they still have an 1/8th or 2 left on the tread but I'm getting ready to replace them. I was going to get the Toyo T1Rs but have since been thinking twice after hearing that they have a softer sidewall and will take away from the handling. I want something that will handle as well if not better than the Bridgestones but preferably give a little longer tread life. I also want to keep the price either under if not the same as the Bridgestones, if this isn't possible I guess I'll just go back to the RE050s.

Any advice or feedback would be appreciated.

there are much better options than the stock rubber I believe. Try out the hankook rs2 or the falken azenis 615 both of those tires have a 200 treadwear rating so they should wear better than stock and give better performance. I would not reccommend going to 235 on the stock 7 inch rim or your handling will suffer due to a wobbly sidewall.

you are right I think you would have to downgrade your diameter by going 225/40/18. It's a compromise I guess.

wait no that was for the hankook for the azenis you could try and run a 225/45/18 and hope for no rub.

I've got a couple thousand miles on Falken FK452s in a 235/40R18. I've got no real complaints, but be ready for a few grip-related problems like torque-steer and drift/pull on uneven or rutted roads. That'll just happen with a wider, stickier tire. They make a little more noise than the old tires over certain road textures, and sometimes under normal braking they "howl" a little more than the stockers did. I really haven't flogged the car through any corners with them, but just this morning I flicked through a hard right-hand 2nd-gear turn, and the car cornered so fast I just about hit my head on the window :)

You're right, the 235's are almost identical to the stock tire OD, which is a big reason I chose them. Plus, we all want more traction, right! The 452s do not rub on my stock suspension. I believe they're safe with a Cobb drop, but if I go that route I'll be rolling the rear fenders to be on the safe side (can DIY or only about $100 at a body shop I'm told).

For the record, Azenis 615s will not wear better than the stock Bridgestones :)

So the wear number is not that accurate then? That's too bad I really wanted to get azenis for my next set of tires. I guess I will have to look for something else.

Everything that is over a 225 is not reccomended for a 7 inch rim, anyways I decided to settle with the T1Rs. I got a great deal on them and figured I'd give them a try.

So I have the T1Rs on in 215/45/18 and they feel great, just did a 500 mile round trip on them and I have no complaints on the highway. They are a lot smoother. I see what people mean about the softer sidewall but I feel that for most drivers it would be hardly noticeable. The performance is fantastic so far, I haven't really given them a thrashing but they are very responsive and felt very flat on the few turns I took.
