Tire Questions

Yeah. I'm running JIC's which are super stiff, so I'm hoping I'll be able to get away with some tire sticking under the fender. My car also isn't lowered a ton, so that will help. I can't wait to get on the track with these (July 4/5).

You guys are starting to worry me. If I wanted to put a 225/50-15 Falken or Bridgestone S-03 on a 15x7" wheel, what offset range would I be looking for to avoid rubbing?

How about with a 215/45-16 Falken or Hankook on a 16x7" wheel?

Any ideas where I could get a 15x7.5" or 16x7.5" wheel, cheap? We won't be buying SSR Comps...

Well I know the 205/50/15 Falken will rub on a 35 offset with a 15X7 wheell (Don't ask).

There is still some doubt if the 225/50/15 is actually comeing out the last I heard have you seen it out yet? (*** 4th Qtr 2005 on vulcan tire site)

You can't get a 225 series tire to tuck inside the rear fender on a Protege. There isn't enough space between the strut and outside fender edge. I'm running +37 (IIRC) offset 15X7 Kosei's and I can't get my finger between the 225 Hoosiers and the strut. They stick out of the fender about 1/2-3/4 of an inch.

I ran 215-45-16 Falken Azenis RT-215 on 16x7 Rota Slipstreams +45 no problems on stock suspension or the JIC's. If you have the car with enough ride height, you can pretty much fit most things, can't you? What were you rubbing on with the 205 Falken, I'm guessing the fender with your offset, but if you have enough height I don't see how. I don't know all that much about this stuff so I'm probably just missing something.

You are missing that it is not my car I was talking about. Yes it was rubbing on the inside of the fenders. The car it was on does not have that much ride height.

The problem is that when you corner the car leans and cuts into the tire sidewall and most times the more ride height you have the more your car will lean around that turn.

I want to try the 235/40/17 RA-1 on the MSP.

Oh, where'd you say it wasn't your car?

Anyway, I've got JIC flt-a2's set to 15/15 front, so I think I'll be alright. We'll see though, the tires shipped today, wheels should have shipped today as well, but haven't gotten confirmation.

I'm running +37 Kosei's and the 225 Hoosiers barely clear the struts on the back. The only thing keeping them from rubbing the rear outside fender is 375lbs springs.

Here's my car with the 225's up front and the 205's in the rear.

Hmmm...Hoosiers run very wide, wider than Falkens. So a 225/50-15 Falken or Bridgestone might fit. I should probably get people to measure the mounted widths of their tires and compare to what you've got. (clearly impossible for the Falkens, which don't exist yet). Or maybe it would be better to just go with 215/45-16.

well, scapamouche tried 225 Falken RT-215s on a 17" rim on his stock MSP, and it rubbed all over the place. I don't know what offset or wheels he was running though.

Sorry I never said it. I thought you might have seen some AutoX pics of my car and thought I was talking about my car so I was giving you one other peice of the puzzle you did not have before. My car is stock and I plan to keep it that way since I might run GS next year if they move my car (enguard)

I was just trying to give orthonormal a datapoint for an STS P5 without rolled fenders.

I think he had them on the stock rims. I could be wrong though. The World Challenge Proteges ran 225's on 17 inch rims, but from what I heard there was a lot of fender modification that went into that. I'm sure Tripoint could tell you more about it.
