I discovered today that I have a screw in my passenger rear tire. It is not leaking at all but according to Tires Plus the screw punctured the sidewall and is not repairable. They didn't have any tires in stock to fit my P5 so I left the screwed tire on the car. I may take the opportunity now to replace the stock wheels. In the meantime, I still have this tire on the car with a screw in it. I'm not going to drive it much until I replace the tire. Until then should I lower the air pressure in the tire due to a compromised sidewall? It's a Dunlop 5000 series tire and I have it at 50 PSI (max is 51 PSI).

If you open the door on the end of the door panel is a sticker that states what the psi should be I am pretty sure for the stock tires it is 32psi on all 4 corners.

Thanks. I have been inflating all four tires to 42 PSI (the fronts are Kumho 711, max 44 psi and the rears are Dunlop 5000s, max 51 psi). I didn't want underinflated tires on the front for two reasons, because they were the front tires and because they were newer. The rears are I'm assuming the stock tires. I bought the car from a used lot in June, they replaced the fronts only at that time. A lot of times manufacturers will tell you to inflate the tires lower for a smoother ride, but tire wear increases at the lower psi. Of course the same can be said for tire wear and over inflation. I just switched tire pressures today and that's when I noticed the screw in the tire.

40+ psi is way too much, and it will only go up as the tires warm up, take pics when your tires explode, kthx

also, how's your traction at 42psi?

if you're worried about tire wear, perhaps you should buy some Cooper 80k mile tires?

Traction seems fine at 42 psi, but honestly I haven't tried any lower pressures.

You can't be too worried about tire wear when it comes to the Kumhos, they wear quick no matter what. I was just trying to be a little proactive. I guess I was a little over ambitious. I'll lower the pressures to about 35 psi. Does that sound a little more reasonable?

Yeah, I just did a little "continuing education" search on google for tire pressure and found the error in my ways. I'm glad I didn't have to learn it the (really) hard way.
