Tire Decision Making

Did you order the wheels from discounttire as well? You got a good deal on the tires. I will be ordering mine very soon with the warranty. How much did they charge for mounting? I had my winters mounted for 58 bucks at another place (valve stems inclusive).

You shouldn't have a problem with rubbing. I don't know the section width of the falkens you have but it should be ok. Some people said that their rubbing disappeared once they went with cobb springs. Higher spring rate=less travel I guess.

Oh ya...we need pics! (burnout)

I actually ordered the wheels from subydude aka wheeldude quite a while ago, they've only just now been shipped. And, I ordered the tires online so I'll have to pay more for mount/balance at my local DiscountTire. Crappy.

Interesting point about the Cobb springs. I wonder if they add enough negative camber that the tires tuck inside the wheelwell instead of ramming against the fender lip. More likely though, it's just so close, some people have issues on giant bumps or with "extra wide" 235's. Others have slightly narrower 235's or don't encounter such extreme rough roads. Who knows, I'll just try and wing it, if it rubs or seems close, maybe I'll learn how to roll fenders :)

Oh, and unfortunately I won't have the wheels & tires mounted for a while, so pics will be slow in coming. :( I'm not at home very often on my current job, so not much chance to unwrap goodies or get tires mounted.

I wish I could get pics taken cus I'm curious how it'll all turn out too!

I ordered my set from subydude/wheeldude too, haha. Mine don't come in till first week of March. What wheels did you get from him?

I am not sure on the neg camber on cobb. I do know that it's within spec meaning you don't need any camber links.

I think discount tire charges 20 bucks a wheel to mount/balance. There is a shop in Oakpark just off i696. Great place, one of tirerack's super installers or whatever. They charged me $58 (with valve stems), so it'll probably be like ~$50 for you. I just had the winters mounted/rotated and put in my hatch. I slapped them on the car when it got cold. They probably charge like ~80 for bolting them on the car though.

Niice, thanks for the tip dude, I go past there all the time when I'm in Michigan. Do you know the name of the shop off hand?

I got a set of Rota P1s from Zoeb in Hyperblack. My car is black mica too so I'm really hoping the hyperblack-on-black turns out nice. I wasn't completely sold that I'd love it but I wanted to give it a try. I'll bet you got Rotas too if they're from Zoeb, haha. Don't tell me they're Hyperblack!

Haha, sorry to disappoint, they are hyperblack...but hey, at least they are Torques, so there is a difference. Oh ya, I have black mica too. I'll keep an eye for your car come spring.

The shop is Curt's Service, 14611 W. 11 Mile Rd, Oak Park, 48237. Small place but it seems they have long time customers which is a good thing. I don't really trust discount tire, as the majority of the cars they get are grocery getters or soccer moms.

I wasn't too excited about the color too but when I saw my light grey winter wheels on my car, that sold me. I don't think I can do silver, maybe gunmetal though. You won't have to clean the brake dust every couple days either.

Does anyone know if VW wheels will fit the MS3? I have a set of the optional 18's that are 7.5 wide and are a natural fit for 225mm tires.

my buddy works at discount tire...the certif for replacement are one of those things you probably will never use...but if you do get sidewall damage (unrepairable) you'll get new tires so that's pretty sweet. I mean literally you could slash all 4 tires when they get old and get 4 brand new ones....not that I would do that but its a pretty cool policy. Not sure if I'll get it

The certificates are nice too if the tires do not last to the rated mileage. Performance tires are basically exempt from this since they aren't rated for a certain mileage.

For snow tires or all-seasons, this can be nice when they wear out prematurely.

That's awesome! I like the Torques a lot, I forget now why I didn't get those. I think it was a fitment/availability issue, like Rota.com led me to believe I could only get an 8.5" in an 18". That's obviously not the case though... Well it's cool that our cars will look similar! Glad now that I went with the different style though :) Look forward to meetin you at some events this season!

Thanks for address of the tire shop too

I gave some incorrect info about the fender rolling in my earlier post. This is what I found in the rule book for STU:

Fenders may not be cut or flared but the inside lip may be rolled
to gain additional tire clearance. Flares that are part of body kits may be attached to the stock fenders. Plastic and rubber wheel well splash shields may be modified for tire clearance and to
accommodate a rolled inside fender lip. The intention is to permit
fitting the maximum allowable tire size, and the modifications
may serve no other purpose (e.g. air intake, brake ducts, etc.).
No other changes to the stock fenders or wheel wells are permitted.

So, you can roll the inside lip as long as it doesn't flare the fender. :D Alright, I am thinking of goin for 245s now. The only concern is my 48mm offset and the 1inch cobb drop. From what I am being told, it should be fine.

The rota torques that I ordered were a custom order. The eta was 3 months. They just arrived at port today so hopefully subydude can ship them out asap. I am curious to see your wheels in hypersilver. I tried to place an order back in November for them but they weren't being made so I ended up with the torques.
