Time Magazine. The 50 Worst Cars of All Time

Amusing list. Most of the descriptions were really well written.

i think that list is mostly crap...maybe a candidate for "50 worst auto columns of all time."

it makes me wonder exactly what the criteria were for these "50 worst cars" when part of the description of the Jag X-type is "it's really not that bad of a car." apparently while the car wasn't bad, the fact that it didn't have the market success Jag hoped was the reason it landed on the list. and everyone i know that has an Excursion loves it (of course, they all tow things w/ them).

"worst of all time" implies that the cars on the list should all be bad CARS...not market failures; not purchased by an unintended demographic, but bad in themselves. many of these aren't; they're simply excuses for the writer to make pithy (and baseless) comments. so rear-engined cars tend to oversteer when driven badly? shocking! why isn't the 911 on the list, then? the writer even admits that his family LOVED their corvair..yet, "worst of all time." uh-huh.

Nailed it right on the head dmitrik. Half the time the author praised the car right after he trashed it..

I can't read time anymore.. It is awful.

Yes of course, I agree, I think the source says it all (Time magazine, not really a source to look for car related articles if you ask). I found it while (google) around for some car images and thought it was interesting to take a look. But to the point, there are several cars collected and listed here that are a definite yes, they do suck IMO:

- Pontiac Aztek
- Hummer H2 (or any civil use Hummer)
- Ford Pinto

And some of some of the ones that I do disagree with:
- DeLorean
- Trabant (my wife owned one, the design and materials of those things were wicked good for the context on how they were designed/built. As per the looks and the handling (puke))
- Ford-T

But anyway, I wouldn't spend too much time reading the contents :D

I know the Model-T was a little hokey-poky and cheaply made but it made it possible for a lot of people...and they still have a large following. They are really solid and capable machines despite how primitive they are (even for their day).

I think the author was trying to make some sort of political statement that it's responsible for our oil consumption and congestion today which has nothing to do with how good/bad it is regardless of what it may or may not have contributed to our current situation.

I completely disagree with the 02 7 series. It only got on that list solely due to the back lights which were a bit weird for that year but nothing unbearable. I also find that the Prowler should not be on that list. That car was very unique and an art piece.

I would take the delorean any day also. btw its making a comeback.

The descriptions are nicely written. Sounds like they didn't really have a reason for putting the 7 series on there, though.

I disagree with a few of those cars, including the prowler. That is a collector car now a days, yea I think that the powertrain isn't the best, and an auto tranny...eh I can see why they did it but it doesn't make it right. I would have that car in a second if I was able too.

Actually, their biggest complaint was the 1st gen iDrive that everyone hated so much.

Cool, I have own two of those...the Prowler and the H2! Love them both ;)

I would have to disagree with this one.
1985 Mosler Consulier GTP
and the Modle T

(iagree)... oh, and the Prowler as well. I don't really care what any car reviews say about the Prowler one, I love that machine (exterior and interior)

Lists of any kind are either overrated, naive, dumbed down, and are usually just a crutch for journalists that don't have anything better to write about.

Pontiac Aztek? I always call them Ass-Teks. To me they look like ass!

OMFG!! This desciption pegs it perfectly:
pontiac_aztec.jpg

I was in the audience at the Detroit auto show the day GM unveiled the Pontiac Aztek and I will never forget the gasp that audience made. Holy hell! This car could not have been more instantly hated if it had a Swastika tattoo on its forehead. In later interviews with GM designers — who, for decency's sake, will remain unnamed — it emerged that the Aztek design had been fiddled with, fussed over, cost-shaved and otherwise compromised until the tough, cool-looking concept had been reduced to a bulky, plastic-clad mess. A classic case of losing the plot. The Aztek violates one of the principal rules of car design: We like cars that look like us. With its multiple eyes and supernumerary nostrils, the Aztek looks deformed and scary, something that dogs bark at and cathedrals employ to ring bells (cf., Fiat Multipla). The shame is, under all that ugliness, there was a useful, competent crossover.
