ticking time bomb

Mine has 30000 miles with regular 3000 mile synthetic oil changes and its starting to sound alot like a diesel. But like Dim said, it adds to the intimidation factor. Ticking like a bomb about to explode on that mustangs ass... or maybe just explode;)

Haha...to me it sounds like a lively motor. Now Hondas sound more like sewing machines where you can only hear the pulleys (belts) (notcool) But I may just be biased :)
 
okay...it only comes on at a specific RPM range, usually 3k-4k RPMs. then after 4k, it's gone. i'm starting to less that it's the turbo, and more that something is loose. also, does anyone know how many bolts are attaching the downpipe to the turbo ?
 
i actually recorded a video while i was driving, i'm gonna try to split it and cut it so it's short enough to upload

i have some... hilly back rd in PA video from inside an MSP .... let me know how to do all the TECHY stuff ill up load it... also have a crash aftermath vid of a sideways miata and a telepole at 90+... love to knwo how to get it here so all of you can see! (uhm) (jerkit)
 
i doubt your downpipe is loose....the stock studs used compressed nuts to hold them on. the only way they're coming off is by stripping the stud.
 
jflo i had a similar problem just before i got rid of my msp (due to lemon law). it was the turbo. they replaced it just before they bought it back. they didn't tell me what was wrong with nor did i care cause i knew they were buying it back. they replaced the turbo, rotors, bushings, and bunch of other stuff and then they baught it back. so i didn't really care about any of it.
so just be careful. i don't know how modded you are but i would take it in and have them check it out.

and as for makig people worry about their msp.....well you should. it is a delicate flower ;)
 
oh yeah, so it's 5 bolts ? is there something wrong if i only see 3 nuts on the side where the s-pipe attaches to the turbo, but 5 bolt heads on the exhaust turbine ?

does the car make the same sound while UNDER boost? or only for a second right as the turbo spools up? i really dont think it's your bottom end from the sound of the video.
