ticket for street racing!!

tonight i got a ticket for street racing! me and alot of friends (7 packed in 3 cars) were driving to waffle house. we were ofcourse being stupid and driving over the speedlimit and my friend chris in his Ranger kept laying wheels everywhere. well anyways were driving about 60 and a cop pulls all of use over. and then proceeds to give all of us streetracing tickets?? WTF? and he gave us thiswhole BS thing about how he should have taken us to jail? IM ******! we wernt racing anywhere, we were speeding yes.. racing no.. i wouldnt waiste my time with a ranger and a busted ass hyndai! for one i cant get another ticket or i should loose my license anyways, but a street racing ticket is like an automatic 8-10 points on my license which equals no license. im going to court to try and get it reduced to something besides racing and hopfully something will work out.. MAN IM ******!!! (nuts) Damnit Damnit Damnit! what should i do, I NEED HELP!

You are broke, well you better get unbroke and get a lawyer.. Finance it or something, sell your body .. do something.

You don't want to catch that ticket for street racing. The fine will be stupid, you will loose your license and when you want to get insurance again in your state.. get lube cause you will get *****..

Foot the bill of the lawyer now. Some may have payment plans. Figure something out.
Don't get found guilty or you are royally screwed.

Call the courthouse first, and ask about differed adjudication. This is where you pay the fine, then serve on a probationary period (usually 3-6 months) where you can not get another ticket in that county. If you do not get another ticket then no points go on your record. If you do get another ticket then you get points for both and have to plead guilty to the second (new) one. If you did not get a "reckless driving" ticket then you will probably be allowed to do this.

Same thing happened to me. Myself and some other board members all got "racing" tickets even though none of us got speeding or moving violation tickets. We were just following each other close enough that the cop assumed we were racing. Even though there were like 5 of us on a small 2 lane road traveling single file. We all got differed adjudication and couldn't get another ticket for 90 days. Fine was steep (about $250) but having no points added made it worth it.

Speeding or some other moving violation and racing or just racing?

Ok you are doing 60 in a what? If it was 60 in a 30 you are really ******....really really ******.

Either way, if it was like 60 in a 45 or something you should be able to get out of the street racing portion. The one thing in the favor of you is that the whole definition of street racing is pretty shaddy, and not well defined.

One persons def. of street racing may differ from anothers, so with that in mind you should be able to argue that it was just a bunch of friends going to the waffle house. Not only that, but point out how many people "street race" in a ford ranger, and a hyundai....

There is always a public defender. Also You can personally speak to the prosecutor, if you choose to plead not guilty, and i am sure they will give you a deal of some sort.

Here is your problem, if it is a traffic citation you cannot use a lawyer.. unless he cited and released you on a misd. charge for street racing.... you need to find out NOW exactly what you were charged with... An infraction, or a Misdemeanor.... you can fight both, but if it is an infraction - you have to represent yourself in court..... Good Luck.... If you get over this one, you might want to slow down a little so you won't have to worry about points and the loss of your license...... (gossip)

Nope, the burn out would be an unsafe start and/or exhibition of speed

Where I am, you could get a ticket if the cop "thinks" that you are about to participate in a street race. You should check out the definitions of "street race" and how it is enforced. But in all honesty, I think your out of luck. Especially if you have a history.

definition of a 'street race' changes from state to state and province to province.

I know that in Ontario you have to Burnout for it to be a 'street race'. We have specials on street racing on the news all the time, it's annoying, but informative.

im afraid to even accelerate from a stop light when there is a car next to me. if you street race around here, they impound your car and take you to jail.

i know my rights, so i've raced cars up to the speed limit of wherever i'm at.
The worst they could do is charge you with reckless driving, and that's an easy scenario to toss out of court cuz it's not 'reckless' to accelerate fast, especially if you have a nice little peppy car you're testing

the ticket was for racing thats all. no speeding no wreckless driving. the cop said he had to do 80 to catch up but he was far away and he didnt clock any speed. the condition was clear/wet/night/no traffic. the cop messed up both tickets (the conditions for both were different) and he spelled my first and last name wrong (the ****** had my license!). the road was a 45. i think ill try that differed adjudication. Cuz i seriuosly cant afford a lawyer. I have 2 speeding tickets in this year alone. one last halloween for 80 in a 55, and the other was 72 in a 45 which i had to plead NO LOW for so i cant use that again and i already went to defensive driving (bang) ... man this SUX i am most certain i will loose my license.

Maybe if you lost your license you would learn to slow down. Sounds like to me that you and a bunch of your buddies were ******* around and got caught. Pay the ticket.

72 in a 45? I live on a street that is 45. I would hope you do get a ticket and lose your license if you're doing 72 past my house and my yard where my kids play. Whatever, sounds like you need to do some growing up.

Tell your Mom that I thank her for not bailing your ass out on this, it isn't her responsibility. Did she pay all your other tickets?

if he got your NAME wrong, and the weather conditions are different on tickets given at the SAME time at the SAME place... the cop was apparently 100% incompetant.
