throttle body spacer

i just recently installed a throttle body spacer. Last step in the directions say that adjusting of the throttle cable will be needed. How do i do that? As it is now with no adjusting, the idle is a little high and little bit eratic

i think there should be a screw at the top if TB for adjustment but i Never played with it. post results after

well i messed with what i think is the TAS. Its on the firewall side down at the bottom. I have read that u shouldnt play with it tho. with that screw backed out all the way, my idle would only go down to about 1200-1300 at normal op temps

What exactly is the benefit of a throttle body spacer? More room for air in the throttle body = smoother & more responsive throttle? Is the difference noticable?

I think its suppose to make the throttle body run cooler, thus cooler air coming thru. Not sure if i notice anything yet. When im on the gas, i get a vac/air leak sound and when im not on the gas i don't hear it. Im think tho that its coming from the custom midpipe i had an exhaust shop make for me. Both flanges were not welded on straight and theres holes at various places goin around the welds also cuz i ran seafoam from the engine and saw white smoke coming from the welds area

That's not good... You gonna get that shop to fix it? I've got an SLS mid-pipe in the mail right now. I can't wait... (cabpatch)

wanna find the source of the leak or whatever it is first. I wanna doubt its the throttle body since i put on new gaskets and its on there pretty tight. when i rev up at idle i don't hear the noise tho, only during acceleration. I reset the TAS to where i think it was prior to adjusting. This morning tho i got a CEL. Code said high rpms at idle. I checked the freeze frame data and it shows I was at 963 rpms. How do i get a error code for having high rpms at only 963?

Not sure, 963 isn't all that high... But its definitely higher than the 600 it should be around... How high is it idling at right when you start it up? There should be one if not two ways to adjust your idle aside from the throttle cable. I've never messed with em tho so I'm not sure what or where they are. I'm sure a search would take care of that.

As for the SLS mid-pipe, I ordered an OBX 4-1 header too so I'll be installing them at the same time and they bolt right up to each other. And then yes, it bolts right up to the factory racing beat cat-back.

on a cold start it jumps up around 2k then immediately drops down to around 1500 and then drops down to around 900 as it heats up

Hey all, Got a 08 1/2 three 2.3 that I have been spending lots of time and money on but I still have a ways to go.. I was loking into any intake options I can and have even gone as far as modify the OEM intake to hold an extra cone filter... I'm working on an exhaust but have had mixed answers when it comes to the Cali emmisions my car cam with.. Does anyone know of a good throttle spacer and has anyone put a CAT back exhaust on a 3 with Cali Emissions???? ANy help would be cool...

BTW, this section is for MP3 Proteges not Mazda3's... But yes Cali emissions are strict. You can do whatever you want to your ride, but the fines will just be pretty steep if Johnny Law discovers you remove ANY of your factory emissions stuff.

Thats not too bad... It should jump up to around 1800 RPM or so on start up, and then for manual trans, it should sit down and idle at about 600 RPM. *For auto trans it should sit around 800-900 RPM at idle I believe. Is your idle steady and smooth? Or is it erratic at all?
I just cleaned my egr and it made my idle very nice, and it's probly my imagination but I think it smoothed out the bottom of my powerband too. Here's a link to the how-to sticky.

The IAS (idle adjustment screw) is on the side of the throttle body; back it out to raise the idle, screw it in to lower the idle. You really shouldn't mess with the TAS (throttle adjustment screw) for some reason... Not sure why but its apparently a big no-no. So if I were you I would check out the IAS and try to put the TAS back where it was at originally... I would also guess that small adjustments on these screws make a substantial impact, but again I've never messed with them myself.

i adjusted the IAS after i returned the TAS to i think was the original posistion. I actually ended up turning the IAS several times with minimal change to idle and yes i did the GND to TEN trick. I cannot seem to get the idle any lower than i have it now. Now just gotta find the source to the whistling noise. I also cleaned the egr while the throttle body was off even tho it didnt really need it. I bought the revised egr not long ago

Nice, I don't feel like buying the new one. (shrug) Well if the idle isn't doing harm, it should be fine. As for the whistle... exhaust leaks don't typically sound like a whistle, haha more like a fart. So I would guess the leak is somewhere in the intake side of your system, not exhaust. And since you just installed a throttle body spacer... My guess is something to do with that. The gasket(s) you used are good? Sometimes gaskets are cheap and don't make a good seal.

Edit* O, and does the whistle change pitch or volume when you gas it?

yes i think it gets louder the more i press on the gas. I don't hear the noise if i rev at idle or drive in 1st gear, all other gears i hear the noise. I bought new oem gaskets when i installed the spacer

Do you work at Valvoline in cold spring? What shop did you get the midpipe made at? Might be able to check it out and listen to it since I live in the area.

Ya I don't think it would be the gaskets then, it would essentially be a vaccuum leak at that point anyways and the car wouldn't run right. But I'm still thinking its on the intake side from how you describe it. An exhaust leak is essentially heard all the time, at idle or at WOT (just much louder at WOT (naughty)). A whistle (like from intake) would only be noticeable during certain ranges in the powerband or during a specific range when the airs velocity is just right (i.e. not hearing it at idle). You check all your connections on your intake (filter, fittings, etc...) after you connected it back onto the Throttle Body? A loose fitting somewhere on there would make a sound similar to a whistle...(boobs)

I do not work in cold spring. Had the pipe made at Ryan Muffler. Yea maybe we can meet up for you to check if i dont figure it out soon

Ah 2 yellow mp3's in the area. I thought they were supposed to be the most rare. Yea we'll definitely have to meet up sometime.
