Thoughts on getting a '18 Signature

:
2018 Mazda CX-9 GT
The dealer told me they were willing to sell me a cx9 signature for $41,800ish , my trade in value is $21,000ish for a 2015 Mercedes GLA250 (26,000miles on it.) Would love to hear some thoughts on if this is a good deal or not. I have two dogs and also drive back and forth to the airport a lot to get my parents and also for work myself so want a big vehicle so really in love with the cx9!! Also keep in mind the sale price and trade in value are just stated prices I haven't went back to haggle at all :)

Is it brand new? Sounds like a good deal on the $41800. Dont know how much the GLA is worth though.

Since you have reported that your sister said the dealer is saying that '19s are inbound and weeks away, that doesn't seem like a great deal to me (the purchase--I can't say anything about the trade). With 19s on their way, the dealer should be wheeling and dealing to clear out 18s. When I check TrueCar, they say that market avg price is $41,302 for a Signature (non-Machine Gray). That's an average, which means roughly 1/2 of buyers pay less than that price. I say there's a heck of a lot of room for the dealer to go lower.

Keep in mind I only thanked the dealer and then said I would think about it and left. I was planning in trying to drive the '18 down to around $39,000 esp with the '19s coming so soon. Considering there isnt that much difference between the two models I don't mind saving some $$$.

Check around with other dealers. Depending on your area and how many competing dealers there are, that may not be the best price.

When I was looking for my '17 GT in August last year, it was just a few weeks before the '18s were to be announced, but none of the dealers within 50-100 miles of me were dealing at all. Every dealer I spoke with came in within like $50 of each other. Right after I took delivery I came on here and saw that other people were paying $1-$2k less just because the dealers near them were running better deals without really even having to haggle for them.

I imagine in metro-areas with more dealers/competition that they are willling to work more on price, but I was not fortunate to be in one of those areas when I was shopping.

Good luck!

There's not much difference between '18 and '19, but if you buy an '18 in August, depending on how long you keep it, $2000 savings will get eaten up if you don't keep your car for a longer period of time, because when you go to sell/trade, it's valued as a full MY older, even though you would have bought it at the same time you could buy a '19.

Use TrueCar and work the dealer hard.

I went to another dealer and looked at a GT instead of the Signature, really prob gonna get a GT instead. Don't really think the Signature is worth that "extra fluff" IMO. Both dealers were around $38,000K

Personally, I think the Signature interior upgrade is well worth it. But it's a matter of personal opinion.

Also, keep in mind as well that once the '19s come out that while you may get the better deal on the '18s due to clearouts that stock availability will factor in as you'll be left with only remaining inventory in dealer lots thereby left with fewer choices on trims, colours and packages, etc...if those don't matter to you then wait until the last minute to get best deal

I'm not oppose to a signature, I just don't like the limited color selection. In particular I really love the titanium flint mica, the dark metallic brown i find beautiful.

Yes that's a nice color as well...in the shade or during dusk it looks more like a grey color but in the bright sun the brown shade comes out which to me is unique. The only drawback is if you get the parchment interior which really looks good but might be hard to maintain due to the possible jeans stain that some owners have reported...maybe a black interior might be a safer option. While the ext color choices for the Signature is limited as you've said, the interior of the Signature in the Nappa leather chroma brown (here in Cda) is not common compared to the usual black/beige or brown (more on orange shade) interior and it's shade is more on the red side which makes it look more premium/uncommon. I too was set on the GT prior to buying but the wife would only agree to the CX9 (coming from a Volvo) if it was a Signature and this was due to the interior...we've gotten a lot of compliment on the interior whenever someone notices even coming from strangers parked close to us in public
