I used a cotton diaper cloth in a pack of 6 from walmart to wipe the wax off then a California Duster double sided microfiber towel to polish it off.
I also use the California Duster microfiber sponge which is also a nice product. The towels are very nice and only $8 at pepboys, they are thick and fine fiber on one side and course on the other. This allows you to remove any extra wax the cotton cloths missed then turn over and polish with the fine side.
When I wash my car I wash the lower half first with a seperate sponge then hose it all off again and wash the entire thing with that Calif Sponge so that I dont move any dirt from the lower half into my good sponge. I also change out the water between this time.
I basically wash the lower half all by itself then the entire thing again this way you wont get scratches all over each time you wash.
Many thanks. I have been taking my car to the car wash. They seem to do a pretty good job. I just dont have them wax it. I really want to start doing it myself....at least applying wax to it.
Like I said there is alot of good stuff out there but as you can see Meguairs is easy to find and priced right and actually does the job as good as the others.
I know there may be other product out there but I like their full line up and it all works great together.
I never will let a car wash touch my car I watch them wash my friends MS3 and they wear rings and s*** plus nobody will do as good as a job as I will.
Mine is 100% spotless right now inside and out and wont be 15min on the freeway to work tomorrow, lol. I like doing it perfect and keeping it looking good every single day I drive it.
I can tell you I wont ever not wipe it down daily again since the stupid bug splatters on a black car will leave the splatter mark behind after just 1 week with out a wash or speed detail. From now on I will keep cleaning that s*** off at the end of the day to prevent this. With a ton of hand work and wax I got it out but it will be much easier to do daily maintenance then to do that again.
Hmm i've read that leaving wax over night doesn't help anything but give you a harder time removing the wax... HOWEVER, I bought some NXT paste wax and applied a decent amount, not too thin like they suggest and left over night to dry.... next day, it took a bit, but i removed all the wax... and WOW... it was SMOOTH... i mean SMOOTH...
I just waxed mine again as I seem to do once a month and I dont see the point of leaving it on that long. Mine still comes out smooth and I still am a fan of meguiars NXT paste version. The paste is better then the liquid from my experience of using both.
I haven't tried the paste yet and I'm almost out of the liquid form. It looks good when I first do it www.ctgrey02.com/pics/mazda but after a couple weeks it no longer retains it's ability to bead off water the way it does when fresh. That's kinda annoying, lol. Also it will leave white on black plastic, albeit no where near a conventional caranuba wax. I'll give the paste a try but if I have to apply it as often as I do the liquid I'm going to look for something else. Even my mustang seems to need waxing after a few months and that just sits in the garage. *shrugs*
One product stands out above all the others I've tried, and I will confidently say I've tried pretty much all of them. That product is Zaino. The stuff just blows my friggin mind. I have yet to work on my car with it (its over 100 degrees in Vegas, too hot!), but I have used it on my father's Vette, my old T/A, my old Mustang, Celica, Protege' and my motorcycles. I think I have a pic of the paint on some of those cars. Here's a few:
LOL! Here's the protege after sitting in a lot for 2 days, after a huge wreck. Paint still looks good though.
Here's a shot of my (old) bike.
Come September time, I'll have the right weather to do a few coats with Zaino. Takes time, but the stuff is incredible.
I also have used Zaino over the last 6 years on my Miata(s), RX-8, wife's CX-7, and now my Speed3. Love the shine, beading of water, ease of putting on and taking off and to top it off their stuff smells great.
Nah I think I will try Ice next time just to compare but over the counter s*** is fine for me and this cheap ass paint job.
Its not like cars come with good paint any more and its so damn thin it shows every knick. I was at a dealer where they had a used Massrati for 100k and I looked at the front end to compare paint and it was just as thin with rock chips showing through.
I think I am going to try ICE next month and see how it does. I have read people that used NXT then ICE and like ICE better so I will have to see for my self.
Besides Costco sells ICE products in bulk and cheaper so that would be cool.
