Thinking of turbocharging your P5? Here's a guide for getting started...

Is 20" length be sufficient for the oil return line? What is the minimum?

Would a 3/8" diameter be sufficient for oil return? What is the minimum for good flow?

20" might be okay, best to just get under there and measure it, no kinks, no funny loops...you want a nice flow back to the pan
3/8" ID?

this is the stuff you want

I think I will go with this

As you may have noticed I am trying to spend as less as possible without compromising on functionality

Same seller has the 14mm banjo that I need for water source

20" is WAY more than enough lol

the oem line is like 6 inches

but always get too long of line and cut it down

So should I go with 13" kit? The one I am looking at comes with either a 13 or 20" line. I wouldn't cut them because they are already crimped.

don't get a pre-crimped line, this is a custom application...you need a custom drain line

13" is still probably too long, but you won't know how long you need until you measure exactly where you are going to....get the oil drain line kit that you build yourself, I'm too lazy to find you a link right now but plenty of places sell it...you cut the braided line to length and put the fittings on the end, the oil drain line is not a pressurized line and thus does not need to have any kind of high pressure sealed crimp on the end...you place the line inside the fitting and tighten the fitting down on the end

I normally just stick with a flexible silicone drain line that I cut to length...it's way easier, and cheaper

I linked the kit above. The cheapest kit that I put together: silicone hose, fittings, flange and pan fitting came out to about 57 shipped. The kit that I linked above with the pre crimped line is 43 shipped plus they also have the 14mm banjo.

kit

I forgot to mention that I do not want any barb fittings. I don't want to have any worry about the hose slipping off the fitting. So the fittings I am looking at are a bit more pricey.

I hate to break it to you, but if 14 bucks is going to break the budget on this then you REALLY need to reconsider turbocharging your car

as I said, this is a custom setup you are going with, you will need a custom drain line...13" is not a magic universal number that will work with every setup

that is also -8AN line, which is not that flexible at all...getting it to go where you need it to go is not going to be easy if it has a lot of excess line

if you want an oil drain setup that will work gauranteed then you will need to either measure EXACTLY how much you need, or you will need to put the fittings on the braided line that you cut to length yourself...the later is my recommendation, that 13" kit is not my recommendation

and barbed silicone or rubber lines are not an issue at all...I've used them countless times and have never once had an issue...as I said, the drain side is not a pressurized line, it will not just 'pop' off...just be sure you have the right sized barbed fittings for the line you are running and you will be golden

the three way silicone fitting? nope, just oem

onlinemazdaparts.com should still be able to source it for you, I think the part number is in the original post

yeah thats the one. Jason is off today so I have to wait till Monday for the order to be processed. Big order going to onlinemazdaparts. He has really good prices I checked with employee pricing at my Mazda and that water return elbow still costs 75CAD

yea omp.com is kickass, the only time I ever really use my local dealership is if they have the part in stock already and I don't feel like waiting/paying for shipping hahaha
