Thinking of turbocharging your P5? Here's a guide for getting started...

sweet, thats awesome, what about the other parts like wastegate, BOV, and oil feed lines, any good sites for that? or should i just go to onlinemazdaparts and get the OEM ones?

steer clear of ebay turbos and 'universal' kits...especially if you have to ask 'will this work, it says universal'

not trying to be patronizing or anything, but custom kits require a lot of knowledge about the car and what you will need to make it work...and you usually spend just as much money as a nice kit in the end because of that...I'm guessing you are new to turbos and because of that alone I'd say stick to a kit that you know will work and isn't going to fail on you, if you do it right you will be much happier I've found

snike: no problem, I don't mind

hey maxx, do you know what the thread size is for the oem water opening on the back of the block? 14mm is to big and I need to get the right size fitting tomorrow lol

alright, i decided today to stay N/A, its a LOT of work to turbo, and i wouldnt have enough money for an actual kit for the p5. thanks for the advice though

you're welcome, I don't mean to discourage anyone from doing it but it is a large task to take on and if you are not fully able to commit to it then you'll wind up with problems...especially on this car lol

^^^ The fitting will not fit the back of the block. You will need a 1/8" BSPT thread for the back of the block.

I think the price is still good for just the line and the fittings. I can get the T from mazda. What you think?

I personally think 36" is a little long but I suppose with the correct adaptor fitting it should work. Don't bother with Mazd OEM - go to www.mcmaster.com and pick up a 1/8" BSPT male to 1/8" NPT male adaptor.

D'oh, just saw that you're in Canada. I think I remember something about McMaster not shipping to CA anymore?

yea don't go with the oem mazda feed line, it's crap

$20 isn't too bad for the line, but you will need the adapter piece

36" isn't too long actually, it's about right...I've had 48" before and it's roughly a foot too long, I just put a 36" on and it's just right...could probably shave off two or three inches, but I'd rather it be too long than too short, you can always loop a little bit around the back of the engine to pick up the slack

Yeah I got the ebay line. The 4 way cross is 1/8" NPT female.

You also need:
1/8" BSPT female x 1/8" NPT male --> Oil pressure sender
1/8" BSPT male x 1/8" NPT male ----> Block

I have been playing with prices for a while and an aftermarket Tee is the cheapest but to get all the right fitments with braided SS and aeroquip fittings will cost $70 for oil feed only. I got the ebay line with fittings and cross (4 way) plus the two additional items listed above for $40

Also just for peoples info you can also use 1/4" metal brake lines. You can find them with inverted flare and the right size for under $8, pipe and fittings together. I have one right now that I will test.

Cheapest Materials for Oil Feed Supply

As mentioned in the thread before there are 2 ways to do the oil feed:

1. Adapter Plate - This goes in between the oil filter and the block. $39.00 does not include fittings or line.
2. OEM - You take out the oem Oil pressure sender from the back of the block and place a Tee between it and the block. This is how it is on the mazdaspeed protege.

I took route 2 but did not use OEM material because it is too expensive. I went aftermarket. Below is all the material you need to provide the msp turbo with oil in the LEAST expensive manner.

There is a seller on ebay who sells an oil line with a X splitter (not T) with crimped 1/4" 90deg fitting for the msp T25 turbo oil inlet. The oem way is a T for the block, pressure sender, oil feed. But this 4 way can be used to hook up a pressure guage later on and comes with a plug if not used. The only thing is the 4 way female threading is 1/8" NPT. The block and oem pressure sender are 1/8" BSPT so you need additional supplies, which still comes out to be cheaper than any other way.

(a) 36" Oil line + X splitter + Turbo side Fitting - MiragePower2008
- The 1/8" NPT male fitting for the block in this auction can't be used you replace it with (b). The lowest best offer is $18.51 with free shipping

(b) 2 x 1/8" NPT male -> 1/8" BSPT male NIPPLE - 4810T221
- One will be used for the block the other for the coupling $3.00 each

(c) 1 x 1/8" BSPT female -> 1/8" BSPT female COUPLING - 4810T151
- The oem pressure sender will connect to this coupling $2.63 each

COST: $18.51 + $6.00 + $2.63 + McMaster shipping = $27.14 + shipping

McMaster shipping is not expensive so don't worry. I recieved the oil line from ebay and the crimping and line look to be good quality. The 4 way cross is made out of brass if that is an issue for some people McMaster has SS Tees and Crosses:

SS cross: $8.96
SS tee:$5.17

150 PSI is plenty the oil will not exceed 100.

I was browsing the thread to make sure I have everything. Looks as though I may only need a couple gaskets.

For those who have gone from NA to Boost, what type of problems have you ran into along the way? This is just a question to see what type of problems some of you have ran into on the inital start up.

I have not heard of many having problems on the initial start up after boosting.
Example: Vacuum leak, boost levels to high or to low due to having bought a used wastegate, coolant/oil leaks, etc.

having couplers pop off the first night i hit boost because i didnt use t-bolt clamps. fun.

mismatched t-bolt clamps and couplers does it too... yeah, when you try to source clamp from one place but couplers from another, they tend to not be a matching size

and original coil packs with a lot of miles on them tend to get killed from the additional engine heat and extra spark energy required under boost... result? roasted cat! yum yum!

yup, loads of fun

sounds like i have most of those concerns taken cared of since i have all t-bolt and extras, and i plan on getting new coil packs in august/sept.
