Thinking about getting a RX8

Awesome, so let me make sure I understand this correctly... Accessport will delete the CEL if I decide to have the local exhaust shop put in a custom exhaust? That sounds like the route I'd prefer to take. Are there any significant hp or tq gains with accessport? Sounds like I still have a lot of learning to do. I figured out today how to turn traction control off :) I love my 8! Any thoughts on bridgeporting? I haven't looked into it much...

chiefmg, I'll try to make it out before the month is over. I'm not much of a morning person, but it sounds like a good time. Do you know of any good rotary shops in the cincy area? The closest one I've found so far is in Columbus at The RX7 store.

Bridgeporting is not likely. A few have had success with a mild porting job, but nothing as comprehensive as a normal "bridgeport". It seems the more agressive the port, the shorter the engine lasts (think less than 1K miles for some of the agressive porting jobs). They sure do sound sexy though.

As far as the accessport goes, what it will do is hide or mask the CEL. That way when the engine detects a problem it goes looking for the right code to throw and the code can not be found. The process works 100% of the time as long as you mask the right codes. This will only work for OBDII tests. If your state uses a sniffer you are done. Some of the hi-flow cats will work, but I don't know which.

For tuning, the AP is the only game in town. There is some gain to be had, but not much. The main thing I noticed after the tune was how much better my car was running at all rpm's. You can still order a new AP from Mazdamaniac, and he will get a tune nailed down for you. That is the way to go. That way he will turn the codes off for you.

I do all my own work so I can't help you with shop recommendations. If you can hook up with the group at Fuel I am sure a couple of them can point you in the right direction.
