Thinking about buying the unichip

I was just wondering from people who have this installed if its worth it. And is there any downsides to having it installed?

Well, I do not have the unichip but I also have been thinking about it, all I realy know is that you have to go to a unichip dealer to have it reprogramed whenever you get a new performance mod.

The unichip is a great upgrade if you are only planning on running with bolt-ons, and don't want to mess with tuning the car.

I have an intake, exhaust, fmic, all along with the unichip and it runs great. No need to re-program it. You have peace of mind that your car will always run well. The maps have also been dyno proven by members on this board to be very good maps.

Its much better than stock, and you only have to plug it in. You also get to avoid all of the flamewars about the *other* engine management systems out there.

I haven't had any problems with my Unichip. I just need to adjust the boost controller due to a new wastegate, but its ran great on my car, from 6-12psi. The tune is conservative but cleans up the stock maps well.

I'll also be using it to control 440cc injectors on a built motor :)

I heard boost control is a bit fuzzy as far as spiking. But like I said, it is something I've heard. I don't know from experience.

If anyone would care to clear that up, I'd appreciate the info.

yeah I was wondering about the boost spike too. Would it be better to get a dsm afc and then an ebc (greddy profec etc.) that doesn't spike? would cost around the same...

I don't have any spiking issues with my UC boost controller. On the stock wg actuator it would hit 12psi and just hold. Now it holds 14psi w/ a nice fuel cut. The UC ebc is supposed to spike a lil, but not past 12-13psi AND it should settle around 10psi.

I am also thinking of getting unichip, among other forms of EMS.
Does unichip have room for any potential, meaning a bigger turbo and more power than just a stock MSP setup?

If your looking at adding a different turbo, look at something that you can tune yourself. But if your looking for a different turbo, you may as well look at getting new rods and pistons as well.

The stock turbo will run out of steam at the same time that the stock engine does.

Why would someone buy the UNICHIP instead of the MPI?
It seems as if they are near the same price, but the MPI seems like it has more potential?

The Unichip is plug and play, comes with a boost controller and comes with a good tune off the bat. You also don't need to use an o2 modifier/signal clamp like other piggybacks.

If you have never tuned before and don't know anyone that has, I suggest not trying on a motor you can't afford to replace.

My Unichip is in the mail as well. I know several people that are running Unichips and are having no problems with them. Also, I might know someone that might be getting the software so tuning it would not be hard for me. But as far as I know it can support a larger turbo etc. just as long as you have access to someone with the software and cables to tune it.

yo, this is why these threads end up being 200 pages. just let the people with unichip answer, not the people that just 'heard' about them, or heard from other people who heard from other people that the mpi or the aem or the cocknballs is better. there are already multiple threads existing here regarding all of the available engine management systems. there's threads about who's better than who and this guy sucks no this guy sucks. no need to start another one

i think people might be getting different boost pressure readings with the unichip EBC because theor mechanical gauges arent accurate. The electronic gauge in my afc is a bit off to my mech gauge.
