Thinking about a MS3

Hello Everyone,

I have been browsing the forums for a few months now and think it's time to introduce myself. I am really considering getting an MS3 in the next few months after doing research. I test-drove one and can see why the reviews are so favorable!

I did have a question, though. I tried doing a search but haven't had much luck with it, but what do you all think about purchasing the extended warranty for this car? Generally, I am not a big fan because it doesn't usually pan out, but I have never owned a turbocharged car.

Anyone have any thoughts? I guess the 2010 is still too new to have seen if there is actually a need, but I thought I would ask anyways.

Thanks!

depends on what they are asking for the warranty and if you plan on modifying the car

I have never been a fan of the auto extended warranty. If you feel you must have a warranty, be sure it is backed by Mazda and not one of those worthless Insurance Policys backed by some lame-ass company. I take the money saved and get wheels and tint. That way if my car breaks down, it will at least LOOK cool!

There are very few makes that i'd consider one on, but from Mazda, i'd consider it. I've had some really finicky hit-or-miss problems with mine, and i'm still in the 1st year of ownership. Previously owned an MS6 and an RX-8, and BOTH of them would have benifited from one.

There is one HUGE factor to figure in tho...are you gonna keep it for a long time? If you're looking at any less then 5 years, I would save your money. However, if you are REALLY in it for the long haul, i'd consider it for the right price.

I added an extended warranty on my 3s: 5 years/100k. Why? Well, I put about 20k mi./yr. on my old Protege, so Mazda's 3 yr./36k warranty on the new 3 would've lasted me little more than a year and a half. It cost me $998 (or $16.63/mo. for 60 mos.) for the extended warranty, which I thought was reasonable, and now I'm covered for the length of my loan (I won't be paying it off early since I got 0.0% financing).

I bought a 5 yr tire/wheel and roadside assistance warranty for $400 when I bought my '10 MS3. I figured w/ the ridiculously low profile tires, I'd bend a wheel at some point. Turns out that was a good investment b/c in the first few months, I had a screw in one tire, which cost about $280.

Regarding the extending (drivetrain?) warranty, I passed on that b/c the price was too high. If you can get if for cheap (e.g., 7 yrs for $500), go for it.

^ yeah, for real. When you sit down with the finance guy, he starts reading you numbers that you can't even believe. Friggin "premium level" 7 year/100K mile powertrain warranty for $2600 WITH a $500 deductible.

Just to humor myself, I asked what a zero deductible would be for the same warranty. How much you might ask? $4600. Insane.

And yeah...that warranty doesn't even kick in until 5 years/50K. SOOOO $4600 for 2 years/50K miles. Better be breakin a lot of crap in those 2 years to get the payout on that sucker.

i was thinking of gettin it was an extra 1500 for two years i turned it down mazda comes with 3 year bumper bumper 5 year power

Everything is negotiable. If the extended warranty goes over $1,000 I believe you're paying too much. Mazda's warranties aren't always the best imo. I would rather go with Cost Guard. They cover more with less or no deductibles. Mazda's wording in their warranties can screw the consumer over. This is my personal opinion from working at a dealership and working closely with the service department. If you should get anything it would be Gap Insurance. In my area the actual cost is normally 50% less. Just fyi.

i needed a new tire so i screwed a screw right into the sidewall... gotta love that extended wheel/tire warranty!

And you're obviously proud of the fact that you lied and got something that everyone else has to pay for. Nice man. Good job.(cool)
