Whats comes in the Theft-Deterrent Security System that are available on the Grand Touring models? I have the regular Touring model and I wasn't sure about the differences in the alarm system between the two cars?

I believe is:
1. GS: Immobilizer system
2. GT: Full Alarm (i.e. will beep when you open the door, lights will flash, etc.)

Its really strange but the alarm in the Touring model seems to function like a typical alarm. I am not clear how the Grand Touring model differ.

So let's clarify, are you in Canada?

If you are in the US:

- Sport: Immobilizer
- Touring: Immobilizer
- Grand Touring: Alarm+Immobilizer

While there are many similarities the US and Canada models are not exactly the same:

CAN GS <> US Sport
CAN GT <> US Touring and US Grand Touring

Please update your location so we can help you better :)

He's in Rhode Island. Just get an aftermarket alarm system, and go for two-way while you're at it.

Thanks stevel0923 for updating your location.

So what DKaz says I guess. In the US there is no GS, it is the Sport. The Sport and the Touring have the same immobilizer system. Yes, it looks like an alarm keychain (lock/unlock/beep fob thingie) and the blinking car/lock deterrent in the dashboard, but it is not a full alarm.

Only the Grand Touring comes with an alarm from factory.

Thanks for the clarification! So what does the full alarm in the GT models provide that the immobilizer does not?

Here you go, according to the manual:

Theft-Deterrent System

If the theft deterrent system detects an
inappropriate entry into the vehicle, which
could result in the vehicle or its contents
being stolen, the alarm alerts the
surrounding area of an abnormality by
sounding the horn and flashing the hazard
warning lights.

NOTE
The theft-deterrent system operates with the
key or the keyless entry system transmitter.

The system will not function unless it is
properly armed. To properly secure the
vehicle, always make sure all windows are
completely closed and all doors and the
liftgate are locked before leaving the
vehicle. Remember to take your key and
transmitter.

Operation

System triggering conditions
The horn sounds intermittently and the
hazard warning lights flash for about 30
seconds when the system is triggered by
any one of the following:
  • Forcing open a door, the hood or the liftgate.
  • Unlocking a door with the door lock switch.
  • Unlocking a door with the inside door lock knob (other than front passenger side).
  • Opening a door by operating an inside door-lock knob.
  • Opening the hood by operating the hood release handle.

If the system is triggered again, the lights
and horn will activate until a door or the
liftgate is unlocked with the key or with
the transmitter.

In Puerto Rico Mazda adds the alarm to all Mazda models at the port, My Mazda 5 Sport(DX here in PR) came with the alarm, I have a picture of the module if anyone wants it.

Yes...please post picture of the module and the location where it is installed. Maybe, we can figure out how to order this part if it doesn't cost too much and there is no other parts to install.

The module is located under the Dash next to the steering column(left side). I did a search and it looks like code systems makes the modules for Mazda, Subaru, Kia and Hyundai(they all have the same model number) and it connects to a hardness that have Mazda stickers on it...

Sistema de Alarma con Inmovilizador, huh? Cool!

Are you using exactly the same keyfob? My guess is yes, same as the Grand Touring here...

Just checking the Mazda Puerto Rico site, hell knows why the trims are called DX, LX and ES, possibly the Proteges were hot over there and they wanted to keep the names? It is only for the Mazda5 it seems, weird :D

Yes, with the OEM Keyfob. The Mazda 3 too uses the DX LX and ES names and DXp

These are awesome pictures! I will have to check with dealer if this is something I can install on my touring model!
