The "What mods for a daily driven MSP?" Guide Thread

how does she run?

Like it's being chased by Chevy 585 big block thats trying to kill it. lol jk

It drives great. Its had it's issues here and there, but that's to be expected. There've been days where I wish to god I was still stock or rather bought that damn Evo instead...but then, there are days where I'm glad that I didn't. We have a love, hate relationship - like any turbo "marriage". (thumb)

no thanks.
I guess I did get them mixed up.

But is it a very good product.
I have seen 12 second MSP's using this Intake Manifold, but just wondering who else has tried them. Any problems?

I have one. I like it.

Its a better flowing mani than the stock one without going to a full sheet metal intake. It will move your powerband from lowend to mid, to mid to high rpm. It depends on your goals.

I havent had any problems however bogging when the car is first started has been reported. If you let it warm up a little you shouldnt have an issue

thanks terbow this thread is very helpfull just have a few questiions for ya i want to install what u recomend here but im having trouble finding all the parts, i need to know where to find them so i can price things out i found the upgraded SMIC, intake, and boost controler mostly at protege garage. i am having trouble finding the rest. also i want to run a BOV and the SMIC is expensive with all that is needed i found a FMIC from altered customs for just under 400 dollars i know its not as good as the SMIC for hp and peppyness but its more affordable for me and i can run the BOV i want to with this, would this cause problems with this setup?

not 100% sure, but i would be careful when buying a FMIC for under $400, most that i see are around $700-$1000 with the hardpipes and usually a BOV setup and sometimes a SRAI too.. but i would maybe check to see if other people have used the setup if possible

The FMIC set-up your talking about is from a member on this site. She basically is taking a Universal FMIC kit and setting it up for the MSP for you. I'm not sure if it's precut or just gives you the info on what pipes to use where to cut. IMHO front mount is the way to go. If your going to run low boost stick with a smaller core, and shortest piping route possible. You won't feel a difference compared to the SMIC as far as lag goes. The SMIC/FMIC has been debated and will continue to be debated for years to come. The same goes for the Universal vs. car specific FMIC. Turbolife is the best of both worlds as far as FMIC goes. I got used MSP specific hard pipes and a good brand new Front mount intercooler. I think for what I have invested in it, I ended up with a great set-up.

That depends greatly on the core and piping run. There is a large difference in throttle response between the 2. For example the MAM FMIC vs the custom MSP SMIC was night and day for me.

FMIC's are more efficient, theres no arguement. The best thing to do is make sure the piping is run with as little bends as possible and that the core is a good quality core. I agree with you on the turbolife. Thats a really nice kit for the money.

However, it depends on how invasive one wishes to be with teh car. If your goin for under 10 psi and dont want to cut or take the bumper off you cant beat the SMIC upgrade.

I get all my parts from street unit, they are quick with delivery and customer service plus shipping is free! The site has everything you could want for your MSP. Remember you always get what you pay for if you pay $400 for an intercooler it will perform like a $400 intercooler. Don't skimp on the cash if your building a car but anyway I have all the things you were talking about and I love it...WELL worth the money. Also, if you have any other upgrade questions street unit has a forum with a thread that list different ways to build an MSP it's very helpful. Hope this help with your ?'s.

I have that exact exhaust and it sounds and performs great!!! It's deep and throaty and definitely no "ricey honda" sound. Yea it comes with the DP, mid pipe with high flow cat and rear pipe. The muffler also comes with a silencer but i took it out. Also I recommend new exhaust hangers cuz the stock ones aren't strong enough to keep it form moving. The hardest part of the install is extending the o2 sensor. Hope this helps

yeah that helps alot, sorry for asking such a noob question but this is my first car so ordering parts and everything is all new to me.

i was also wondering about the corksport engine mounts where i could find them? i looked on the website and all i saw was a awr mounts but there was corksport motor mount inserts. is that what there talking about?

yea CS has the inserts. which is what i use. they will keep the exhaust from cracking without adding too much vibration.

the awrs are the full mounts.
