The "What mods for a daily driven MSP?" Guide Thread

if your just worried about exhaust stress that will be plenty. you have a flex pipe in the vibrant so theres no need for full mounts.

unless your trying to squeeze every ounce hp to the ground, then if you dont mind the fierce rattleing you can get the mounts.

so im ether going to buy the corksport power series exhaust or the vibrant 3inch turbo back exhaust. i was wondering why the vibrant costs so much more or if its even worth it?

because the vibrant is 3" and has a high flow cat. The corksport is 2.5" i think and has no cats and therefore is not smog legal if where you live checks emissions.

just so you know the vibrant isn't a true turbo back exhaust. but that topic is like (deadhorse

what are your goals for power? that will really determine what you 'need'.

im just trying to follow the guide you wrote really i just was wondering if there was a big difference in quality or anything or if the vibrant is worth the extra money if i do buy the corksport power series should i buy the corksport down pipe to?

if you plan to go with bigger power the 3" becomes necessassary. however for like...under 250whp you prolly wont need it. quality wise, they are both nice units. the cs doesnt include a downpipe or a car so you have to figure that into the cost. i had the 3" and it was too loud for me, so i went with corksport, sold the axelback cause its loud and used my stock one to make up some of the cost.

the vibrant includes a cat and the J pipe @ 2.5" (rest is 3"), but is louder and for low power is overkill. its really up to what you want to do. ive owned both and they are both quality pieces.

What up guys? I want to get the Walbro fuel pump for my car to help eliminate some of my fuel cut. The question is can I run a bigger fuel pump on the stock injectors or do I need to get the 440's? Also, would i need to get my car tuned due the new fuel pump? Sorry for the newb questions but i not too sure about the fuel system on these cars

On stock injectors or even 440s you shouldnt need a pump. If your on the stock ECU its cause you have too many bolt ons and not tuning for it. IF you have ems and are getting fuel cut, its probably tuned incorrectly.

Ok I see what your saying...but I guess what I was thinking was when I turn the boost up thats allowing more air into the motor there needs to be more fuel but I guess a pump wouldnt help with that. Increased fuel delivery would be based more on Injectors anyway. Do you think there would be any benefits in getting the Walbro fuel pump its relatively inexpensive and my $ is burning a hole in my pocket

Ive heard 50/50 as to its quality. at your level, no i dont see any benefits. plus its really loud. but its your moneys!

im wondering if any one has followde this guide i want to up my boost using this guide all i have left to get is the down pipe, split second AFC, boost controler, and wideband 02 gague

I've followed it pretty closely... then went further, best thread I could have found/read when I first got my msp.. before you up the boost, put in the ss afc, and when your doing that, put the wideband in there too since you will be in there area anyways (the ecu.. assuming you can datalog, which at this time, most people are getting the v2 and it makes life much much easier) and start with the stock supermap, and I would start at 8psi personally and tune that, see how things work out.. then move up from there.. if anything you can do the downpipe last if you can't do it all at once, the ss afc and wideband you really should do before upping the boost. (all of this in IMO, worked out well for me, some people may feel differently on this like all things)

so your saying all i need to get is the SS AFC and wideband o2 gague then i can up my boost? also how hard is it to install the SS AFC and program and do i need to keep the wideband installed or is that just for tuning? whats the V2

Definatly have the exhaust free. If the turbo works harder than it has to, thats not good for it. At least replace the J pipe and back. The S isnt really a necessesity as the HP gain is minimal at low boost.

then get the AFC and wideband, and a boost gauge too if you dont have one, as it will help you diagnose alot of vac related problems.

ya boost gague and oil temp gague were my first mods. so do i need to keep the wideband o2 hooked up or is that only needed when tuning also what does the wide band do what does it tell you, and would you recommend a high flow cat on the exahust

well in addition to all your mods that are listed in your sig, for the most part

and ya that is what I was going for as well, I couldn't tell if he had already done that with the elimited cat back part in his sig. (couldn't tell what he actually meant and what was aftermarket in the exhaust),

but ya I would go with the Jpipe back, get the s pipe when you can get to it, it helps, but it not necessary for lower boost/mods, the AFC wideband is pretty easy to instal I think, I would make sure you get good connections to the wires, and especially power and ground wires, and just pay attention when wiring (and which wires you cut) for the MAF and O2 sensor, and then double check before you cut.
-the wideband tells you a "real time" air fuel ratios for the most part, and you would keep this installed like you do with your boost gauge, the V2 AFC is just the version 2 that has datalogging abilities which means you can log all the air fuel ratios that your wideband shows when you reccord to tune on the same graph as your fuel map numbers and rpms (you will understand it more when you start working with the program)
-if i didn't say it already I would get a high flow cat, don't really need to, i guess, but I would (I am not sure how much of a difference between them are, but it is better for your car overall anyways)

I think I covered everything that I meant to say, once you go with those mods and free up the exhaust like terbow was saying and get the wb and afc installed turn up the boost slowly, like 8psi and work with that, tune ect.. before you go further, just to be safe.. worked for me at least

Yea, i mean 10 psi "should be "safe"" but thres no guarentee. I ran 12 psi for a long time but i wasnt confident enough to keep it there. It could blow at 8 if it wanted to. I ran catless and catted and theres a minimal difference. High flow cats have come a long way. Just get a good one like vibrant and youll be ok. Its better for the environment and it doesnt smell for those behind you.
