THE TRUE QUESTION: Heat Shield or NO Heat Shield

I voted leave it in. I just installed my Kartboy and all I did was put two cuts in it and bend it.

I didnt even need to modify it when I recently installed my Kartboy ss.

I ripped mine offand tossed it. To shave wieght. I gained .00023 seconds on my 1/4 mile. lol. My shifter boot ripped recently, and i haven't bought a new one yet, sop the shifter compartment makes a nice hand warmer in the chicago winter.

Leave it on. Really, what's the big deal? Weight savings? Aerodynamics? My TWM came with the spacers, so I just used them. It's there for a reason.

noise is the reason.... instead of having to fix mazdas mistake by spot welding in a new nut to install the second spacer, I'd rather just take the damn thing out so it doesn't rattle going down the road anymore....

they stripped one of the nuts that the heatshield bolts screw into.. so I couldn't get it out without cutting it off and welding in a new nut....

if they stripped a nut shouldn't they have used vice grips to get it out?

or a speed wrench will work on rounded nuts as well

or screw extractors

ok... the nut that is welded behind the floor pan.... the spot welds on it were busted/broken.... so the entire bolt just spun .... so i would have to cut into the floor pan to get it out completely then weld a new nut up there.... see what I'm saying now? That is why it was complicated....

i just installed the twm ss and i took the heatshield off because it was rattling like a b*tch, but i just made a cut where it was rubbing and i will put it back on tomoro....If I feel the need too. ill keep you guys updated if the rattling is still there

I just installed my TWM SS... had the same problem as Familia323 to install the spacers for the heatshield. I cut the bolt and install the spacer but my shifter still hit the heatshield...really annoying to me... going to cut a piece of it tonight...
