2002 Mazda Protege5
Hey everyone. I have recently bought my first car, a 2002 P5. This thread will be updates about what I would like to do, what is being done, and pictures along the way. Also, any suggestions for future mods are much appreciated. Chime it at anytime!

I would suggest an exhaust mod, all I did was get a mazdaspeed muffler (by Racing Beat) from the sedan, and bolt it on and you have throatier exhaust. I notice it especially at cruising speeds (1750 RPM - 3500 RPM) deeper and better sounding than stock. P5 is my second car... since my first car (corolla) was rear-ended and deemed "totaled" i got this baby soon after: 2002 P5 which is a very nice silver, the only thing i don't like about it is the lacking power, I came from just a corolla and that little toyota seemed faster than this sportier wagon! other than that, i can't complain much it's a nice little car you got yourself a good one! :)

Exhaust is definitely something I will be doing. Along with a cold air intake. The stock intake is very restricting, it actually whistles! Anyway. How much did that exhaust mod cost? (just a round-about number) just curious. Thank you for the reply!

Custom exhaust, header, and intake would be a good start. They are fun cars, I bought mine a few months ago and can't complain!

There is the first picture. Nothing done to it yet. Noticed a squeal on startup from serpentine belt. Thinking it is the AC compressor. Looking for a bypass pulley until I get the extra cash for the real fix. No need for AC in the winter.

oooo nice MP5...roof racks....mmmm me = jealous....

But about the intake whistling...hell, my Injen CAI whistles at WOT...and I just cleaned the filter too. I don't even know what the stock intake looks like...bought mine with the CAI...

Apparently AC compressor works fine, charged the AC and its working well. Squeak went away with a little belt juice.

Alright sorry I have not done anything with this thread in a while, but i have done lots to the P5 since I posted those last rust pictures:

1. I have fixed the rust (simple sand down, body filler, primer, paint, clear coat/more to prevent future rust than looks really)

2. Re-finished all of the rims. (they were pretty bad)

3. Fixed the fog lights (some contact cleaner and re-wiring did the trick)

4. Installed new lifts for the hatch.

5. Gave it some new rubber (Continental DWS's all around)

6. Fabricated a SRI out of the stock system

7. I am getting the tie-rods done tomorrow followed by an alignment of course.

that's pretty much it. Here are some pictures...

SRI:
Just spectre filter attachted befor MAS. Temperature sensor is secured right next to the filter as to not mess up readings
It looks much better than the stock set up:

all i did was replace the muffler... didn't have a budget for anything more, but I bought the MSP muffler from a member on the forum here and i paid about $160 for it, had to grind off the old bolts though: they were rusted to hell. But other than that it just bolts right up thankfully not a weld job!!
