The Progression of my V.1 Street Sleeper Turbo build

I was on Vancouver Island last fall, and loved it there. The next time we come back, I'll have to check out your ride. :)

Well after 6+ months of storage I finally pulled the car out to stretch its legs. Best part was that it fired up on the first crank and as it came back up to temp it settled into it's surging idle that is inherent with the lumpy cams. Went for a leisurely 60 km cruise and it was all good. Got my long awaited fix of boost! :D

Well I went racing as planned but twisted a CV axle at the event so my day ended early. It was a simple fix as it broke at the joint inside the boot at the trans end and it came out of the car all in one piece. I replaced it with a new generic brand ("CARDONE") from my local parts store. All was good for a week and then this past weekend that one broke! This time it was much more catastrophic! It appears to have sheared first at the hub end and before I could get things reined in, the axle was able to flap around, butcher the inside of my SSR rim before falling down and getting caught somehow to shear it off at the trans end! When I got out of the car the axle was laying alone on the ground just behind the car!
Long story short is the auto parts place treated it as a defective part and replaced it no-charge. My problem now is how to get the broken off stub out of my trans-axle so I can install the replacement?
Here is what I am dealing with...

Here is the hub end...

The inside of my rim...

Sorry that happened. Luckily it's the inside of the rim. Did it wreck the bead lip at all?

Best option is to pull and take the trans apart. Drilling and tapping the axle might be a solution but you're still most likely going to have to take the trans out. Once drilled and tapped you could hook up a slide hammer and pull it out. Biggest issue is, if you replaced that c-clip when you changed the axle it's gonna be a nightmare to get that broken stump out.

What diff is in there?

Well the clip came with the axle I originally replaced, so it is "newer" but it essentially was the same as the OEM that came out the first time. There is a fair bit of "meat" in the stub left in there so I'm gonna give the drill and tap method a shot. Not really wanting to drop the trans....
Ya I'm taking some solace in the fact the damage to the rim is all on the inside. I can take a grinder/polisher to the gouges to smooth it all out and then paint it but it still sucks because it's such a sweet wheel. :(
The diff is an M-Factory.

How is the sealing portion of the axle? Just wondering if you're going to have to worry a bunch about chips and filings getting into the trans itself when you're hacking away under there.

There is still a couple of inches of shaft in there. My plan is to drill and tap. Then I can wind a bolt into the center so there's something to pull on. Any filings should just fall on the floor.

I'm hoping to gather enough interest from people in order to get MFactory to do a run of axles for us. Would you consider them if they were to do so?

Hell yes. I'd definitely be interested in some better axles.

BTW, the weather was nice on the Island last week. :) Felt great in Langley and Victoria.

Where on the Island were you? Just Vic?

And please post on their thread that you are interested. I'm not trying to get a group buy going but if they hear enough from everywhere then they might just build some. :D
