The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

I work at a christmas tree farm every weekend during the holiday season and it is usually enough to get me christmas presents. Last sunday I cleared $140, and usually hit 120 each day I work. get $10/hr and tips.

Damn, I need to start working with you...

The Browns did get screwed over on that game last weekend. I need to find a job here in the next couple weeks. The problem is finding one that is college scheduling friendly and hopefully not dealing with food.

I often dream of finding unicorns too!

It's called optimism. Just because I live in Ohio doesn't make me a fair-weather football fan like everyone else here. (lol2)

See above. :)

two words: Icky Shuffle

I just found a photo of me rocking a Bengals Super Bowl '88 sweatshirt from when I was little.

I'll be bugging you shortly, maybe starting next week. Just need a meep to give me an s-plan pin.

Insanely bored tonight. Too cold to work on the red car so I got creative. To further my custom instrument cluster topic:

1) 7 readings in 3 4" gauges:

Only wideband gets relegated to the center console.

2) 5-6 readings in 2 4" and 3 2-1/16" gauges (fuel level in speedo optional):

Requires voltmeter, wideband, and (optional) fuel level in center console.

3) 5 readings in 2 3-3/8" and 3 2-1/16" gauges:

Requires fuel level, voltmeter, and wideband in console.

4) Modified version of above:

5) Another modified version:

6) 4-5 readings in 2 4" and 2 2-1/16" gauges (fuel level in speedo optional):

Requires voltmeter, wideband, and (optional) fuel level in console.

7) 4 readings in 2 3-3/8" and 2 2-1/16" gauges:

Requires voltmeter, wideband, and fuel level in console.

8) 4 readings in 2 3-3/8" and 1 4" gauges:

Requires voltmeter, wideband, and fuel level in console.

Thoughts? Sorry for the photo dump.

7 or 8 they are a toss-up for me. TBH they all look good. After a third look maybe fourth, I like option 1 best.

Jon why don't you move the speedo, fuel level and wide band to the center stack. Then put the tach, (add a shift light), oil press, oil temp , water temp, and volt meter. You also may want to add a low oil press. light and a high water temp. light to attract your eye to a problem, it may save you another engine rebuild.

I want to keep the speedo in the cluster because it'll still see some street driving and I don't want to have to look down and to the right to check my speed. All the gauges have a warning feature of some form. The Marshall Instrument gauges flash and have a 12V output and the others have LED lights. So you consider the voltmeter important enough to keep in the cluster? I can make a variation of #3 that has four 2-1/16" gauges in the middle.

All the options are more than visible. I was concerned the 3-3/8" speedo and tach and quad gauge would be hard to read but that's not the case. I'm personally leaning toward #1 or a variation of #5 (not pictured) that results in the fuel level, voltmeter, and wideband in the console.

I like #2, though if it were me I would put the tach dead center, vitals (oil temp/pressure & water temp) on the left with the speedometer and integrated fuel level on the right. Everything else can go in the center console or in a single din gauge mount. It wouldn't be as balanced but it would be more race ready. Something I recomend on any vehicle that sees race use, cover your speedometer. It sounds weird but it will make you a better driver as less focus and time will be spent on what speed you're achieving in what sections.

I thought I smelled a upset this morning. I think the bengels beat themselves though.

So basically #5? The problem I run into a lot is the availability and size of each gauge. To have three 2-1/16 in. gauges on the left I have to use a 3-3/8 in. tach and speedo and in that size you can't get an integrated fuel level gauge.

I never had an issue staring at the speedo on track. I think the only time I ever glanced at it was on the back straight at Mid-Ohio. I spent much more time staring at the tach, which is something I plan to rectify with a shift light.

I think the most important gauges are oil temp./ press. and water temp. and tach. all others are secondary IMO.

You could always center the tach and do a 2-1/16 speedometer, seperate fuel gauge and throw your wideband in the dash aswell. Wideband on the far lower left, then oil pressure and water temp (to avoid "oil gauge" confusion), the tach, oil temp and speedometer with the fuel gauge in the far lower right side.
