The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Dogs FTW in my opinion. We had a couple cats growing up and they were prissy things and felt like they always had to be taken care of, again in my opinion. But if you find a cat like an associate of mine from Columbus had I guess there cool. It would play fetch and such, the only downside about his cat was you have your arm on the armrest of the couch playing x-box and all of a sudden that cat would come from over the edge and attack your arm. That damn cat. Hahaha.

OK you canine haters! The problem is not the animal it is the owners. Our dogs, when they were alive were well trained and behaved accordingly as they went to obedience training. I have never heard of a cat protecting their owner or another person. I know when some idiot neighbor ran towards Lauri, the dogs put themselves between Lauri and the idiot! Can a cat do that? Hell no! My dogs even would try to find a crying baby that they heard on TV and they stopped a someone from what they perceived threat to a child, when a parent raised a hand to their child and yelled at them. Cats are cool, but on the end they are nothing like a dog IMHO. I wonder why people don't train their cats? My brother's cat was trained, you could walk him on a leash, give him baths and he would obey commands as well.

Maybe I've only experienced the mentally challenged side of the dog world because I haven't been impressed yet lol.

None of the dogs I grew up with would protect anyone (all Labradors). But your German Shepperds are bred to be like that. I didn't get a cat for protection, I've got my pew-pew for that. haha

End of the day when you tell a dog no it stops whatever its doing and attempts to make up for the wrong doing. My ex has an amazing dog we got together (only thing I miss about her) But that dog would freak out as soon as she heard me pull up the driveway. would literally hug me when I came through the door. if my mom's cats want to go outside they meow at the door till I get to the door and open it up like I'm not doing it fast enough. The dog would also come inside and sit on the welcome mat till I wiped her paws off so she didn't get the house dirty

we are training my roomates foxhound how to rabbit hunt. she is fast on scents. she just needs to learn to pick her head up and look every once in a while,

what kind of dogs did you have marlon?

I agree with Marlon, most people don't know how to have a dog. Easiest way to tell is when they take them for a 'walk', the dog should be either next to you or behind you. You are the master, you are in control, if the dog is in front it thinks he is the pack leader which means he is a "bratty" animal that does as he pleases.

A "good" dog will love you more than he loves himself, cats will always be assholes.

I don't mind cats, but I'd rather have a dog.

LOL.....you all are killing me with the cat vs. dog comments. We have a Golden who just turned 14 in Feb. and love him to death but we've both said no more dogs when it's time for him to go to the Rainbow Bridge. With the kids older and more active we just don't want to be tied down with a puppy and all that is involved and honestly we are both more cat people.

Abbey our current kitten was rescued last year from the local SPCA. I believe it was a $75 donation and she had all her shots and was spayed as well as chipped. I get what you are saying about rescuing one but we aren't going to find an 8 week old all grey kitten at the SPCA....she's at the mall and that is the one my wife has fallen in love with. She sent me a pros and cons list via text earlier today. lol

Marlon, told her your idea and she said 'sounds good to me :D'. Only thing is I could go to LRP but The Glen is out. I've got to work that weekend. :(

$100 for a cat is nothing. I work with two guys who each went to Petland and bought mill puppies from there for a $1,000+. Hell, the one guy was proud of it because he got 0% financing for 12 months on his Shih Tzu, I s*** you not.

Wow, 8hrs without home internet and cable and I'm going crazy. Thank God for my phone. This blows.

German Shepherds

I have a black lab, that is the sweetest most caring dog I think I have owned, but she is borderline psycho. Came directly out of a vets mouth. But I wouldn't trade her for anything, and she cracks me up cause I will tell her to watch our son cause he is up to no good screwing with me and she gets in a defensive position and stares him down. I will then say get him and she takes off after him. Usually it's all in a playful manner and so far she recognizes that stuff. But she has dumbass moments too. But I honestly think if somebody broke in or tried to assault us she would run. We got her to be a family pet not a guard dog. As dumb as this all sounds, now my Golden Retriever we had to put down, now he was a beast. Another awesome dog I had in my life. I would love to train my lab to become an actual retriever like you see in those competitions but it probably won't happen. Okay I will quit rambling.
