The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

The new Wilwood 600 is almost clear. The old fluid will look more yellowish. Get some clear tubing and you'll see the difference when the old fluid is being flushed and the new fluid is coming through.

Will, does the ATE change color over time, like a darker blue or anything?

I went with the Wilwood 600 since it's available locally at Summit on the shelf if I get another seized caliper and have to swap them out and re-bleed that line.

Not noticeably.

I've never heard of or seen that stuff before. Red would be a pretty cool color for brake fluid if you ask me. For all you cats with clear fluid reservoirs haha.

I kinda wish someone would make neon green brake fluid, lol. Everytime I catch a glance of my master cyl with the ATE I get a little creeped out.

Speaking of antifreeze... Any suggestions for the LSx? I haven't looked into what is specified, be it dexcool or otherwise. Car will see some track time, and I should be able to put my water pump on a switch so I can keep circulating coolant with the car off (for at least a little bit of time). Even though I highly doubt I'll have any issues with the cross flow and massive fans, lol.

Evan's coolant is really cool

all I've ever heard was dexcool was bad and alot of people switch it out as soon as they get the car home. Something about eating away at gaskets, there was a big law suit at one time.

a lot of tracks will only allow you to run water on track in event of an incident that causes spillage onto the surface. water can be cleaned up easily, coolant is slippery. and water cools well. i say go water and water wetter for your summer combo. if you plan to drive it when it is cold out though, then nothing i just said matters.

LOL. My car is an absolute ***** when the temp is cold. I'd hate to see that beast try to get traction under 50 deg F.

Tracks and clubs definitely recommend water, but I've never seen an instance when it has been required. I have seen several situations where coolant has been spilled on track requiring clean up and missed track time. :(

And... water has better thermal capacity than antifreeze or 50/50 mix.

But as we discussed in the Protege group a couple months ago, it has it's drawbacks. You can't add water to it and the system needs to be dry (+/- 4%) of water. My concern was if you overheat you can't add water to the coolant system. You'll have to get towed home to add more Evans coolant and a simple radiator hose replacement will cost you more in coolant. But it does seem like a great product.

lifetime grade coolant product vs corrosive ethelyne glycol? should be an easy decision ;)
