The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

as long as nobody hits anything its all fun. I just never knew how much I like messing around on the curves of a back road. Now I know why Marlon always said since the day I started coming around was suspension first power second.

Autocross and/or track days are more fun than messing around on back roads ;)

I guess its the noob status but I've never done any autox events. is it expensive? are there events often?

what is the best club to join? like the one that has a decent amount of events and welcomes newb's. I would love to do some to try it out but I just don't know how to go about it. Whats the most popular club? can you participate in more than one?

You should probably move this discussion into the Auto-x chat thread or Josh will kill us all.

I would do an event or two before becoming a member of a club. No sense in paying to become a member if you don't know that you'll like it! ;)

In the Northern Ohio/Cleveland/Akron area the best club is the Akron Sports Car Club: www.noraracing.net. They do the most events, and generally run a really good event. This year they are having problems wiht the parking lot they typically run so they haven't had any events yet.

The other option is SCCA... Becoming a member of SCCA will allow you to get member pricing at any region. For example, Corey runs with the NWOR (Northwestern Ohio Region) which is up by Toledo and a bunch of us go up there and do an event or events there. I run a bunch of events with OVR (Ohio Valley Region) down in Columbus. SCCA also has a bunch of discounts on other stuff just for being a member so it's definitely worthwhile.

The NEO region of SCCA hasn't done any autocross events for awhile, but this year they are doing a few. So that's another option in this area.

FWIW, I'm a member of PCA (Porsche Club of America), SCCA, and NORA/ASCC. :)

Edit: Sorry Evan! :)

I must be the only one who prefers back roads to the track. I can't even remember the last time I crossed the double yellow running a road lol.

Anywho. Where's all the rain they were calling for? I planned on starting running tonight.... I bought running shoes in December aaaaaand never went running.

Now you just need to back off that greasy awesome food and you might become a beefcake. :P

My running shoes are 2 years old and I've been running pretty much every day lately. Need new ones, but that's $100+. Blah.

Fez, give me your shoe size and I can get my nephew to send you some Nike's. He works for them!

+2 on track days and auto-x....

We'll see how the wife likes this. I'm no Josh, but this was 10x's easier than doing my 7:

yeah, the grille is sooooooooooooooooo much easier to take of than the 7's. The 7's is built into the bumper.

It's never fun finding your car's limit on a public road!

I have to agree with this comment a lot. When I first got my 6 back in 2005 I thought I was bad ass and an Indy car driver and did a bunch of dumb things. First time I went around a curve 2 blocks from my house slid into the curb and I bent my rim and had to replace my right front tie rod. Another time I was running late for church on a Sunday come flying around a corner slid sideways through the intersection into oncoming traffic (thank God there was only one car and they stopped for me to continue my slide) which was unintentional*, and the one that put the nail in the coffin and slowed me down a lot, is I was running late for work and took an S curve at 80 mph and tried to hold my lane and to say the least I lost it, spun my car 2 times and struck a guardrail twice. Did 1500 dollars damage to my car and had to pay 600 to the state because they said the guardrail was damaged. So I take it slow. An no I am not bragging I just want the few younger guys on here to know this so they can make sure they know there cars limits before they do stupid stuff like this or even worse.

Ok I will leave the soap box now.

There is a NWORSCCA run June 9th at the Chysler plant in Perrysburg. Usually a smaller turnout than a TEA event, but still fun. The lot is pretty cleared off too in the terms of there be way less stones than most places. One of the few places you'll not have any stones is a TEA event. Hopefully I'll have a new job by then and be able to renew my membership and fix some things on the car before then.
