The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

yea thats the plan. I asked if they had a touchless mounter, like what V was looking for but they laughed and said no they don't work with nice wheels enough to buy one. My heart sank at that moment

thats when i would have said then i want my s*** and ill go somewhere that does work on nice wheels

When Leipolds in Stow (who did 2 alignments and 2 sets of low profile tires on my P5) told me they don't work on lowered cars or low profile tires I replied with "I refer a lot of my Mazda friends to this shop and you're saying you don't want our business anymore?". Aaaaaaand never been back.

ok time for a rant. I was really pleased with the tire shop I went to (Kauffman Tire in seville, ohio on Lake road) when they did a mount balance and TPMS rebuild for me on the wheels my dad and I just got done painting together (picture here View attachment 202263). Well one of the TPMS sensors started leaking after two days so I take the car back and they raplace it no problem or charge to me. Well the service manager (drive a GLI) said he is going to take my car around the shop then have the tech make sure the lugs are tight... I was like "ok, dont see the point but whatever" so I walk outside as the manager drives my car off and as soon as he turns the corner he jumps on it and I hear him break the tires loose in the parking lot. I was kind of offended but then I got mad when he got out of the car, laughed, and said I know what you mean now (we had just got done talking about our cars). So a little irritated I go over to the wheel the tech is tightening down and look at my wheel and it is just trashed (picture here View attachment 202262) I ask what happened to the paint and the tech looks at me and says "I don't know sir, my machine doesn't go near that area" So now I'm pissed. Well I just chalk it up to a loss and I'll fix it. So another three days goes by and another TPMS starts leaking so I take it back and then they try to charge me to fix it. This time I put a valet tune on it so nobody could do to much damage (car runs like s*** in valet map, the MAP tables aren't set up for my intake) and Everything was good this time, the tech wouldn't even look or talk to me this time. So I tell the manager everything that happened last time and he goes out and talks to the tech and said everything should be good this time. I get outside to look at my car and the wheels is trashed again (not as bad but besides the point). So I call in and talk to the manager and they said they would pick up the bill to repaint the wheels whenever I want them redone, I guess its not so bad but I still dont want to deal with it. Two saturdays ago I go on a double date up to Lakewood to go out to eat and drive around and see the sunset and take pictures and stuff. Well my car sounds like the wheel is going to fall off, I stopped at jake's and jacked up my car and I could spin four of the lug nuts on the last wheel the tire shop messed with. I torque them all down on all four wheels and I'm good to go. Really made me mad because I had someone else's daughter in the car with me. So Monday after school I go to repaint my brakes for this season (came out awesome View attachment 202264) Well I go to take the wheel off and I get all the lugs off no problem except the one I didn't need to torque down. I finally get it off and there are no longer threads on the stud or inside the lug itself. I call the tire place and they said that it must have been me because they all know what they are doing. So now I had to order I completely new set of lugs (got the extended ones so me or the future tire place cant hit my wheels with the socket anymore http://www.ebay.com/itm/GSP-T-5-BLU...Parts_Accessories&hash=item3ccb36c404&vxp=mtr) and I have to get a new stud. All because of one tire shop not wanting to put any effort into doing a job the right way. Oh yea they also broke my socket and said it was already broken when they used it last. Another reason I bought another set of lugs. There is my rant and sorry for the book.

Please if you know anyone that may ever use them, tell them to go somewhere else. Don't subject aother car to this treatment.

File a complaint with the BBB and also see if Kaufmann Tires has a corporate office and send a letter or e mail to them telling them about the poor service that you received. Just always reach out to us, we do know where you can go and get much better service thatn what you received.

I just got off the phone and the district manager is calling me back at 5

HAHA that's a bunch of bulls***! I've been taking my wheels there since you referred me there. So far, they've mounted 3 different sets of 40 profile tires on 18" wheels and they've also mounted a 35 profile tire when I had to replace a wheel last year. I just drop the wheels off and pick them up the next day (instead of having them mount them to wheels already on my car). I've never tried to get an alignment there so I can't comment on that.

See, that's what I don't get!? I was going there for years then all the sudden they told me to bugger off. I was like "umm, really? Okay, I'll take my business elsewhere.".

I used to just drop off wheels/tires for them too to make it easier so my car isn't on one of their lifts. Screw Leipolds, they're racist to the Welsh! haha

So has anyone run Brembo rotors? I need new brakes and they're $33/rotor on TR. am I getting what I pay for? I just need another year on them. Levi said Phen had them on his P5. I don't need anything super aggressive as I'll only do one autocross event. The rest will be street driving.

Ok, I need some advice. I am putting 5 gal of fresh fuel in the 6 tonight, and I will be adding stabils so the fuel doesn't decompose, but there should still be some nasty old fuel in the bottom of the tank, what should I get to stabilize, re-octane that old crap.

I ran Brembo blanks on my P5 as well and didn't have any issues or problems. :)

I ran Brembo blanks back when I had my Mazda 6 and they were great. The price was insanely cheap compared to everything else. These should be perfect for your use. I believe they're considered OEM or better replacements.

That's all I needed. I'll order them tomorrow when my paycheck gets deposited.

Any recommendations on pads? I have HPS now and I like them but this rattle issue I've had makes me want to look elsewhere.

I had issues with leipolds before and haven't been back...

Smokeys in n canton has the most badass tire mounting machine I've ever seen. Teflon pads but I don't even think it touched my wheel once while he mounted it. I should have taken a video. 225s on 10s, no issue. Had the wheel lubed, both valve stems put in the wheel and torqued, tire on, inflated in under 10 minutes no problem.

Best part? They static and dynamic balanced them, and used black weights so they were less obvious. For as much as I was charged at Firestone to road force balance a cheap set of wheels and tires with the clip on weights.

V said that machine is $40k. haha.

I'll be going there to have my Rays and Enkei's mounted next week.

How much do they charge per wheel for a mount and balance? I may go there in the future.

I also used EBC Yellowstuff with the Brembo blanks on my old Mazda 6. That thing stopped on a dime! Yellowstuff might be a little more expensive, but they'll be fine if you autox. The best part about those pads was the fact that they never made any noise and didn't require any lube. When cold, they had the same bite as stock, if not better. Once they're warmed up, they stop even better.

Those are the only brake pads I've used on the old Mazda 6 and I used them on my current MS3 (daily race car lol). I just now switched to Carbotech AX6 pads for a more capable track pad. So I don't really have a lot of experience with different brake pads haha

V said $80. But they didn't have to dismount the old tires. He just had fresh wheels and tires to be mounted. I would assume it might be a little more. I'll find out when I get mine done and will let ya know, #2.
