The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

This thread never ceases to provide lulz to me.

And just to poke the bear... Big 3 did the majority of Marlon's engine work, but everyone loves that car.

The "Sahlen's is dead to me thing" kinda irked me. They went above and beyond to do something special for us Mazda owners (and still do actually) and you are quick to turn your back on them just because they are racing a different car, in a different class, and doesn't compete with Mazda at all.

That's all from me. Will pop back in in a few days

Lol. It is a really hard debate. I would love to have a 3 rotor and could see that thing being in the shop all the time because of my lack of knowledge on rotory motors, but at the sametime I think I would haveto tinker with it a little.

I apologize in advance but I was trying to find a "poke the bear" pic for Phen and came across this masterpiece labeled "sometimes you poke the bear, sometimes the bear pokes you" aaaaaaand I lost it laughing.

I was intentionally avoiding this :p

I've got no beef with Sahlen's. Hopefully one day I'll be able to head up there for one of their shop tours. Was Mazda moving away from the RX-8 any reason for their switch to DP or were they looking to step up for a while now?

i dont know for sure cause im not nearly as "in" as some members but i would say probably the combo of both.... they probably were thinking about moving up as and Mazda ending the rx-8 just gave them the perfect reason to do so

but thats just my uneducated 2cents on it hahaha

Wouldn't you be happy too?

Don't let your username affect your decisions... ;)

OK, let me explain the Sahlen's situation, the RX-8 platform is obsolete and Mazda only races cars that they sell, i.e. 2014 Mazda 6. Shalen's did not want to race a car/engine that is in development. They won with the RX-8 @ Mazda Raceway and Sahlen's does have a fleet of Mazda's (over 30) that they use in their business, so they do still have ties to Mazda in that way. So, I am always going to support them, I thought the BMW DP move was a great one, if you look at the history of Sahlen's, they always come back to Mazda.

As far as the shop work goes on my car or anyone elses, my car is a part of the business of racing, I write off what I can for tax purposes and to me if I had the time to work on cars, I would. I do not have the patience or the time to do my own car, espcially motor work. I worked on cars from the time I was 11-12 years old with my father nearly every weekend! I did this until I was into my late 30's, it gets old. With the MOCO, NASA and my new job, I now even have less time.

To each his own, whether you work on your car or not, if it is done well to your liing is all that matter to me..if a man or woman for that matter is judged by his or her ability to work on their own cars, people need to take a deeper look at themselves

And everyone knows how I feel about Big3. Seems like they fix one issue on Spicy just to break something else. It's an endless cycle with that shop... But Marlon is trapped with them now since they keep having to fix issues. I understand not everyone has the resources to work on their own cars, be it time or patience. Personally, I think a car is much cooler when the owner is the one doing all the work, that's all I was trying to say.

And please note I said "Sahlens is dead to me. hahaha", the laughing at the end means I was joking. Come on, sillypants. They are really awesome to host the shop tours and everything.

Jess, that pic is awesome. Great start to my morning. :)

That pic is great....still has me laughing and what a way to start the day.

GL with your sales Pablo and Congrats on buying Bill's car!

Thanks for the info! So it looks like it was a partial reason. In hindsight it looks like it was a good decision too *cough Daytona cough*

I couldn't have said it better but now you've got me curious on this tax write off stuff. Do you have yourself/car incorporated as a business and therefore can make write offs?

I love how when you say things in person it is taken in different context than if it was typed online. Good times!

Have the day off from my actual job today and working on getting the photography side business up and running. Hopefully will have a website done by the weekend, to go along with my Facebook page, Twitter, Tumblr, and Blog. They all have the same stuff on it, but I figure it can't hurt to have multiple outlets! :) Liking/following these pages would be greatly appreciated!

Next is looking into the business license and grabbing a membership with the PPA (Professional Photographers of America). That way I can write off my equipment purchases...speaking of tax write offs... and make sure I legally pay taxes on what I earn doing this.

So far I have a wedding booked for July 6th, and have 5 or 6 family portraits lined up for this spring, including a day trip to the zoo which should be fun (free for me!) My struggle right now is that I need things booked in advance so I can get off work, or else it has to be on MY TIME, which isn't good for the customer and customer service...

Now I just need a Mon-Fri 9-5 job so I can do this every evening and all weekends shooting weddings...

If anyone wants a (free!) photoshoot of their car this spring/summer, please let me know. Anything I can add to my portfolio is going to be huge at this point! I know I did that a while back in an Akron parking garage.... my skills have greatly improved since that day! Thanks everyone!
