The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Holy s***, has anyone else caught this joker's (rar40941) build thread. The dude is so clueless it's not even funny. What makes it worse is people are trying to help him and he's outright ignoring it! Not to mention the other stretched-tire-racecar-driver-wannabes who are eating every bit of it up!

I've read some of it, had to stop.

It's warmed up to 11* here

It's warmed up from 1* to 9* here. (ughdance)

that thread makes my head hurt more than a few others on here, oh its also -22* here at the moment and will be colder over night. Id love to see single digit weather and some snow, id be out wrenching.

I don't mind the cold, I just don't go outside :D It's been sunny all afternoon where I live so that's nice at least.

I read a bit of that thread and had to stop... I've seen some of the things rar has said in the slammed/stanced threads so I can't say I'm surprised.

I never could understand the purpose of a trunk brace when the trunk is already a small boxed in area. If there is flex back there you have some major flexing issues in other places of the car.

sedans and P5s are very different. I noticed a difference with the rear strut bar, the rest is all for show and does nothing.

Yeah, especially with the supplied hardware it came with. It came with the P5 so I basically looked at it as I can sell it for $500 and buy a rear strut tower bar that will do the same thing. They sure look cool though!

And honestly, I'm confused by the whole harness debate as well though. If someone, such as myself, bought proper seat, brackets, harnesses and roll bar, how is that set up MORE dangerous than the OEM 3-point? Mind you, I'll be using 5-points and my car is not a race car but why does everyone get so upset about it? And yet, no one ever says anything with a high horsepower car with the same setup. Herbely (sp) has Brides, roll bar and 4-point and no one says anything. Same with all the magazines, every car in there is using racing seats and 4-points. Not saying just because everyone does it that makes it okay. It's just a funny observation.

ps- can we talk about anything but the weather? That's a topic for socially awkward salesmen. haha

herblany has real stuff though...

If I were to follow anyone on the forum on p5 racing seat and harness it would be Brianmpt5 or whatever. With a goal of 180 mph he should have a clue about saftey

But it's still a 4-point harness that he will submarine in. And you know that car will never see a track.

have you looked at his seats and harness? he is not someone i would look up to for those his are all show and hes said that many times.

The way I see it is this: NASA allows the use of a correctlyinstalled 5+ point harnesses and certain approved 4-point harnesses (see Schroth Profi ASM) or the stock restraint system for HPDE. The stock restraint systems are engineered to be safe under normal driving conditions whereas racing harnesses are engineered to be safe under racing conditions when installed properly. What that guy has in an improperly installed, fake, 4-point harness so I believe without a shadow of a doubt he made his car more unsafe. I mean, the guy is claiming he no longer has any blind spots because of his "wink" mirror for God's sake.

The way I see it is none of the harnesses are DOT approved because removing the OE restraints is a very big no no. Unless it's strictly a race car and never sees streets you shouldn't be buckled in with them.

I don't think it is less safe than OEM. There are just so many examples of people doing it wrong. When I replaced my seats and belts I did hours upon hours of research and talked to as many people as I could find who had put seats in Spec Miatas to ensure that I was doing it correctly.

Also, I don't think you are going to instantly die if you are using a 4 point belt. If you use it with a proper racing seat, the seat itself is designed to prevent submarining so that will be helpful. But the fact of the matter is that there are just better options out there nowadays with the 5-6 pt belts.

I agree completely.

Schroth makes one harness that is DOT approved. The reason most harness are not DOT approved is that they don't have a "one button" release (cam-lock apparently doesn't count).

And won't have it on the track... evar!

Evan, I really don't see why your set-up is going to be less safe compared to a 3-point belt. I know your set-up will be installed and used properly. Most of the chuckleheads on the forum that have harness/seat set-ups have them because they are kewl. They do zero research, buy what ever they can get, mount it "good enough", and head out of the cul-de-sac for a test drive past the high school.

Add these to stock belts and be done with it.

Anyone know Bill Brees user name? I wanted to ask him what his best time at mid-Ohio is?
