The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Wow, that's pretty cool and I had never known that they offered the free track time for helping out. What a great incentive to get out and help.

Called another shop nearby and labor rates are $75 an hour so it looks like $200 or so is what I'm looking at to have someone fix the laptops. Thoughts on Amazon? I've only purchased a handful of things from them before and never any electronics....found one seller with a BNIB Samsung Galaxy 10.1 32gb for $469.99....the 16gb sells new for $499.99 at Best Buy??? Guessing they are some sort of drop shipper so they have no overhead? Aslo found that for another $26 I can buy a usb and sd connection kit for it. So for the price I can get the 16gb in the store I can get double the storage plus the connection kit! IIRC the kit sold at Best Buy for $40.

i almost wanna work NASA events just to turn down the track time... nothing better than helping out and telling the people afterwards that you dont want anything in return

Send them to me with the parts and I'll fix them for you.

I do like helping out for nothing in return... But I'd never turn down free track time :D

I've only got 1 car with 13K on the loan and almost 70k miles... I'm gonna beat the s*** out of it on track, especially if it's free (not really, since I'm actually working for it)

I'm sorry (not really), but I consider my time to be valuable so if I can get something out of it then I will. NASA is getting more than someone that helps with tech\grid, it will help many people in the end, especially people who are new to the organization\events.

I donate my time and money to other organizations that have better use for it than NASA, the only thing I get out of that is thank you's and a chance to be redeemed when I die, should there be a higher power waiting to judge me

I subscribe strictly to the "Don't put a car on track you can't afford to write off" philosophy. But hey, nothing bad's ever happened at a track day...

meh, im not trying to use someone/something just to get benefits for myself...

Its not different than getting a paycheck at work. (assuming you don't turn that down) NASA is a for profit organization and pays employees in track time rather than hard cash.
If you really want to help out for free and just get paid lunch, we can ALWAYS use corner workers at tracks and it is very much appreciated by the drivers. The group that corner works MidOhio is Lake Erie Communications.

its more im not tracking my only car that still has a loan on.... so for me the track time wouldnt do s***

that all being said i live 3.5 hours from mid oh and wouldnt really be able to help NASA at mid oh that easily

I was about to say that, might be cheaper to ship us the laptops. Amazon is good, I get stuff from them every now and then (including the Verbatim media share)

Thanks guys and may just end up taking you up on that for one or even both of them. Only downside of course is the down time...too bad I didn't live closer and could just drop them off. Of course I wouldn't feel right without paying you for your time as well. Called the one supplier on Amazon (yes I'm that anal/paranoid) and he confirmed the price, BNIB with full warranty.....so tempting to just snag one up.

ive only got one car with about 6k on the loan and 117k miles on it... its not a difficult decision for me to turn down track time

I know where you are coming from Levi and my car is paid off but with 160K and it being my DD, I wouldn't be too comfortable tracking it even if the time was free. On a sort of related note, a co-worker was telling me that her boyfriends son came over to the house the other night pleading for a new engine for his Jeep which is a year old and the father is still paying for. Here he apparently ran it into a pond while out four wheeling with some buddies and hydrolocked it. She said the one quote he got for an engine was 7K but the son is asking for a 14K engine.....don't ask me what engine he's asking for, I didn't go there. I told her that he should tell his son to pony up the cash for the engine since it was his dumbass mistake and after doing so, the dad would pay for the snorkel. Yup...the dumbass never put a snorkel on...telling his dad that he didn't have the money for it.

AMaff is a funny man..........

Or some would say 'the voice of reason'.

I really only have 1 car considering the 79 TA doesn't see daylight until May or June and unless I put skies on the front on the CBR I'm screwed for snow driving. I can't believe my car moves inthis crap with bald tires. SLD FTW!
