The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

That's why you're hearing your engine. All the noise and vibration that was dampened by the stock mounts translates directly to the chassis which comes to you. The exhaust was drowning it all out before.

not really drowning it out, just adding to it and it's really only bad at start up. I have the corksport front & rear inserts I could try, but it's really Amber's call on if it's still loud as is. Plus I haven't been on the highway yet with the silencer and that's the real test.

Phen, I joined before you and I have way less. Some of us are just not as verbose as others.

hey Mike, I've been meaning to ask you what you think about the V-MAXX coils you got. Might not have much time to drive the car though but any comments are appreciated

Bearing in mind that I installed them the same time as my butterfly brace, I noticed a change in the car's behavior compared to the Bilstein PSS. Wheel movement is better controlled, there is less body roll and the car just feels more composed. Of course the spring rates being higher than the Bilstein's is a big help, but the damping seems to be well matched to the spring rates. The butterfly with the way it stiffens the car allows the suspension to track road imperfections without having to deal with flex. I'm used to it all now, but it was quite the eye-opener the first time I drove it after the install.

I'm not sure though how the spring rates compare to the ones on your MSM. They might not be as stiff, or about the same. You can call FM and ask them, they seem like a nice bunch of folks and I've heard nothing but good things about their customer service.

On another note, I've been cogitating (sometimes I talk like that) on it quite a bit, and I am going to try removing the rear sway bar and setting the front one on the softer setting when I get home. Although it's looking like I won't make the last points autocross, I am going to try to make the final fun run and see if that helps my oversteer problem.

Learn car first!

Down boy! Nothing wrong with upgrading bits that you are going to anyway, that'll let one get comfortable with things they way they will be (and I know you know this, just giving you crap back!).

OK, what sway bars do you have? and any idea how the MSM braces compare with the butterfly brace? I don't think they'll be as stiff but it might be close?

what I've read tells me the car should have a neutral balance with the coils given the spring rate ratio (3:2)

installed Evan's old PS pump (Thanks again Evan!) and a new belt, no squeaks as of now, we'll see when it's damp in the morning it was always worse then. And just in case anyone needs to know, you can install them with the car on the ground.

next is the evo wheels finnaly getting on the car.

I have Jackson Racing sways, matched set with front being two position adjustable, rear isn't. Can't recall the sizes (they came with the car) and our connection is really acting up tonight making it harder than normal to do any searching. Don't know how the FM butterfly compares to the later NB factory bracing, I have seen both and would venture an educated engineer's guess that the FM bits are at least several factors stiffer than the factory bits.

Check out FatCatMotorsports online suspension calculator. Start with the tutorial and it will explain how everything works. That will help you dial in a pretty good suspension setup (springs, sway bars, etc)

A very general rule of thumb is that the spring rate ratio of 3:2 will work well, but nothing is that cut and dry.
