The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Ugh, I want a deuce and a half so bad, haha. I'd throw some chains on that beyotch and go have some fun, maybe rescue some people with the winch, etc.

I think it's the fact that it's 13,000+lbs of sliding solid metal, plus the whistler turbo, plus the fact that it has 10 tires, plus the raw power--in gearing--to tow just about anything that can move, that really makes it appealing. Am I the only one?

I like the Roadmagnet springs the best, and Koni Yellows are on sale at Black Mamba motorsports for only $520 shipped, compared to about $650 everywhere else. There was a dood on here selling used Roadmagnets, I wonder if they are still for sale.

I know I can try making my own custom coilover setup, but it looks like the price would be the same as an already completed setup--except it would be custom suited for my tastes. That also takes a lot of time and effort, neither of which I have right now...hmmm

I think I am down to Koni Yellows/Roadmagnet, BC, or H&R coilovers. I like the suspension techniques, but I want adjustable dampning if I am going to go that route... Thanks guys!

I'd rather have height adjustability, personally, although I'm sure it creates an enormous headache when trying to counterbalance the car. I have adjustable dampening or something on my Illuminas, and I've never touched it once. I wonder if I'll need to soften up the back once I get the new sway bar on the rear.

nice score Bill!!!
after you get those mounted could you give my the physical dimentions of the tire inflated to 30 psi.

No problem, but my wheels won't be here for another month. Not really a standard size and bolt pattern they keep in stock.

wes you do realize you bascially just said "adjustability for the win! though i've never used it"

LMMFAO!!

Haha, not really. I mean that was a reason that I got them, but I just have left them on 5/5, which is full stiff, the whole time. All the reviews I read before hand were like "omg, I have to put it on like 1/5 if I don't want my back to break. when I go to track days I put it up on 3/5 and it's so stiff."

Exactly what my car would look like with Roadmagnet springs. Courtesy of jbird:

My only concern still at this point is whether or not springs/struts would be "aggressive" enough for me. I really enjoy having "performance" aspect of my car. I don't know. I'm weird, and I have bothered way too many people for way too long about this. I just can still see BC coilovers as being the best option for me, both financially and performance-wise. And I would hope that quality-wise they last the life of the car and I never have to worry about this decision ever again. I'm sorry, I'm just so bad at making good decisions that I am happy with. It takes me forever and I am running out of time! Thanks for putting up with me the last couple days, guys...

Well James... you could be like me. Make a decision, but the things, and don't say s*** to anyone about it. Hell, there's going to be a box showing up for the MSM in a couple days and I didn't tell anyone. I did my research, checked out the things I wanted to check out, and didn't say a thing. There may only be one person reading this thread that knows what I bought.

Oh yeah, that's definitely a good point. I kinda wish I'd gotten the D2 coilovers for mine (afaik they're good, not sure).

Get a ride in Pablo's car, if you haven't. I mean, I don't really think it's that stiff, I think all cars should be like that from the factory. But it does handle enough to about snap your neck when he turns into stores without slowing. It's nice.

Also, that picture looks great. Are those stock brakes?

i'll give you a ride in my car, you can take it for a drive too since both experiences are different. right now it's set to half stiff, we can change it to full as well. I like my setup even though it might be a pain some times. I had COBB springs and Koni yellows on the MS3 and mazdaspeed springs on this one, it was better but not what i wanted. If I had another MS3, I would get either H&R or mazdaspeed coils.

I haven't had any issues with the BCs besides learning how to adjust them and troubleshoot them a little when noises showed up, they're a very good value for the money

I'll give you 3 reasons why the cars don't come like that from the factory.

1) expensive
2) 95% of people buying the cars go point a to b and are more worried about doing it cheaply and comfortably than performance-wise. That's why the MS products came out, to specialize in people like us
3) It's a ******* economy car.

True, but I really do value the opinions of you guys who I know have more knowledge than I do. Whether I listen to you or not, that falls on me. Seriously though, thank you for all the help you guys have given me along the way. I don't want to rub anyone the wrong way. I only rub people in a way that makes them feel good. :)

And I think two people on here know what you are talking about, unless you went above and beyond...

Yes stock brakes. My calipers are painted red, that is the only difference.

Pablo, me and you tomorrow night at the Lizard? A quick ride around the block under relatively sane driving conditions, just to feel the harshness of the ride? Before drinking or a long time after, right before we leave... I'd be interested to actually experience coilovers!

yeah, i should be there on time

LOL

Thanks Pablo. I gotta go get some planning done. I'll pop back on about every half hour...peace!

best advice you've given so far... Chipmunk talk to Pablo and get a ride in his car and then you can decide if the ride it too stiff or not for you for everyday

Sometimes I ramble and don't know what I'm saying, but I try to make it coherent eventually. (2thumbs)

On a side note, one of my friends has a 04 Cav, and got a CEL. I went on the forum, and the two most commented sections were "exterior mods" and "maintenance." I lol'd.

Morning Ohio. How many of you crazy bastards were told "use your best judgement about coming into work" and came anyway?

I'm in IT so I have to be at work no matter what. I did plan ahead though. My sister has a house down the street from my job with 2 empty spare bedrooms, so I just stayed there last night. Took me 5 minutes to get to work LOL!! Actually, it took me longer to brush the snow off my car than it did to actually get to work.

Well... there you go. Haha. That works.

I don't mind driving in the snow. I don't mind when everyone drives careful in the snow. I just hate stupidity.
