The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

Yeah, they are not cheap the last I looked. Hence why I'm trying to so hard to make the one I do have work. Essentially I need two, one for my tv in the living room and one for my computer monitor.

They're retarded expensive for absolutely no reason. I got mine at Walmart. Philips for $20.

Ya, cables have a huge price markup. They only cost maybe $3 max to make. It's kind of like Soft Drinks at restaurants, you pay $2 and get free refills, but it only costs the restaurant $0.20 lol.

I ended up buying a 160gb PS3 slim with GT5 for $300 last night :) Too bad I had to install a bunch of updates before even playing the game, took about 2 hours!! Can't wait to get home and play it!! I'm borrowing my dad's 32 LCD TV because I don't have any displays that are HDMI. 1080p FTW!!!!

Now I want a 3D TV HAHA That would be crazy playing GT5 in 3D. Too bad the TVs cost at least 1k for anything decent.

I saw videos of people playing the game with the PS Eye. It has face tracking so when you play GT5, if you turn your head to the side, the in-car camera turns too. So you can easily look out the side windows of the car HAHA Anyone try this yet?

Monster is overrated crap. I saw that Monster sells gold plated optical cables...

... you dumb motherfuckers. Optical cables are fiber optic. Gold plated means next to dick! Goes to show that people will buy anything that has a big enough name brand on it.

I was just looking on there. I've got my jar of coins I'm bout to cash in at Coinstar to see how many cables I can buy.

Well I know the Monster Cables on my bass guitar amp made a big difference in tone. But that's not the same as audio cables.

Plus, Monster Cables have lifetime warranties. At least on their music cables they do. If one ever starts to short out or act up, just return it for a brand new one. No receipt necessary. I've only had one 1/4" cable start to sound fuzzy and I use them exclusively for the last 10 years.

only reason they charge more for the cables is because they support more bandwidth for the 1080p video + audio, so if they're optical that would mean a different fiber which should not increase the price that much. I got one included when I got my TV which unfortunately is 1080i and haven't needed a second one, but the cheapest one can find at best buy with no discounts is like 25 bucks.

I just got 3 6' HDMI cables from Amazon for 29.97 which I was able to get an Amazon eCertificate with my coins for that exact amount. The brand name is Mediabridge Ultra Series. It says they support even 3D tv so I'll see how well they work.

What's funny (not really) is that the companies like Monster take advantage of the fact that people don't know how the electronics work in the first place. HDMI is a digital signal, which means it's either on or off, it's either getting 100% of the signal, or no signal, so gold plated connectors does nothing. Like Evan said, for audio it's one thing, but for new stuff, it's 100% pointless.

I dug through over 800 pictures to find this in my folder because I thought it was so fitting, haha!

A friend of mine at work used to work at Best Buy in North Canton. He said that during the holidays or any big TV selling season, the comparisons between Monster cable and no-name cable was actually the difference between HDMI and RCA. Sneaky ******* bastards.

^ i believe it

i always had a hard time believing that the cable would make such the difference they would claim and figured it was just them pushing something that made them mad profit... when i decided to get an hdmi cable for my 360 i just bought a 30 dollar dynex (best buy brand) hdmi cable (it was cheapest i could find at that time, and just tossed it on the Best Buy card when i bought the rockband kit, new XBL subscription, xbl points... the hdmi cable put me over 200 so i didnt have to pay any interest on the purchase) haha

Well then I'm glad I scored each of my 6 foot HDMI cables for 10 bucks each. No joke, check Amazon.com for most of your misc needs like covers, cases, cables and what not.

^^Hah, I saw that video a few days ago, but I can't remember where!

Also, I always wondered about all the TV's they have on display. I'm sure they go in a change the settings to optimize the picture for the expensive sets and "crapify" the cheaper ones. My dad and I went a few years ago with the intent of getting a 1080 plasma, and they had it right next to the 720, and we couldn't tell the difference, so we got the 720 for several hundred less. It's a 50" and everything looks flawless. What's still got me confused is that I can set the Xbox output to 1080i and the tv (720p max, supposedly) will take it through the component cables...
