The Ohio Random Thread... aka We Should Probably Be Working

What?? s*** man, How'd this happen?

I dunno. Happened when I was trying to video the stutter that I was getting. Glad it happened when it did. About as good of a time as possible. I wish it waited just one more year though...

what would the cost be to get that fixed? couldn't you just swap in a used head?

two words: KL swap!

I could swap in a used head but I don't know how to do that and don't have the time to have the car down for that long. I'm still in the process of figuring out what I'm doing.

it might be a days worth of work but i'm sure it can't be that hard

I noticed in my garage that I will no longer need my jack and 4 jack stands as I'm pretty sure they aren't tall enough to lift the Jeep. If anyone wants them let me know and we'll work something out.

Super boo! That sucks, man. And it's a shame to part her out. I love your car... I would offer to help swap the heads but having your P5 towed to my house will probably cost too much. Again, if there's anything I can do, just let me know, brotha.

Dang, that sucks big camel balls. I didn't think a head swap was that big of a deal, besides getting the timing right or whatever. I mean I know some people sell the car if the headgasket blows, but think, you've got it pretty easy in an engine bay with everything laid out for you and lots of room, you know? It's not crammed in there like a KL (even though I love them). If you need another set of hands, I'd be willing to help with whatever. Sorry man.

And think, there are like 14 FS heads sitting in Evan's garage right now.. Haha! They're super common, too, it was in the 626, MX6, Ford Probe, Proteges out the butt, etc etc. Those older ones will have hydraulic lifters and stuff, but I'd think you could swap stuff. I guess your head probably isn't destroyed, it's just the valve..

Wanna rent a Miata?

again, sorry to hear about the news, if you decide to try and put a new head on the car im sure you would have plenty of hands (myslef included) that would be willing to come help get it taken care of

best of luck in whatever you do

man that really sucks, I know your pain. I think you'll need to take it apart to know if there's any more damage, but whatever the outcome it will be for the best.

Well I have to talk to the master tech at the shop tomorrow morning and then I will hopefully know if anything else was affected. If not, I have someone that will ship me a used head as soon as I say so. I have never done a head swap or anything like that so I would definitely need some help. Levi, thank you so much. If I end up needing you to come out or anyone else for that matter, I would definitely pay whoever and provide food, drinks, etc. I'll let you all know the final verdict tomorrow. Thank you all for your support. It really means a ton.

A head swap is really no harder than putting together a custom turbo setup on an automatic car. If anything it's easier. Time consuming for sure though.

Yeah, I started looking up replacing the headgasket on the Miata when I thought it was blown. Doesn't look too hard. I'm sure it's a lot harder than it looks in the pictures, but everyone I talked to said no more than one weekend. I didn't feel doomed thinking about tackling it by myself.

As long as you take pictures to get everything back in order, and have the torque specs for the bolts, I don't see it being an enormous problem. I've got a Haynes manual for a 2.0 626 if that'll help. I'm sure there are a few differences, but maybe it has different pictures or something. While you're in there you gotta do some porting! That'll probably knock a whole 2 seconds of the 1/4 mile and add 20mph to the trap, at least.

Ivan, you know I'll help. And if it's alright with Phen, and you do decide to part her out, you can always bring it over to my house. I can strip the parts for you and even ship them out since I work in shipping at my little shop at work. But if you do decide to get a new head, I'm sure it's not anything we couldn't handle. I would just hate to see your car parted out just for a bent valve...

On a not so awesome note, I have to replace my front wheel bearing. Sucks, anyone haveany experience on difficulty. I have replaced hub assemblies, but never a bearing by itself.

If you don't mind me asking, how many miles are on your car? I've had my car re-aligned and rims/tires balanced to get rid of a front end shake, but it's still there. I'm starting to think it's a wheel bearing, but I'm not sure if it is a common part to go bad on these cars under 100k.

Ask o0n8... he's an expert.

I learned what i can't do on my car

i think it depends on how hard you drive it, mine went @ 58,xxx but it take corners a little harder than most.

Phen will chime in when the 12 hour time difference comes around. I know he's done one or two on his P5 and the front on his MSM.

Is it possible to just buy a new hub with the bearing already installed? I know it's not the most inexpensive route but then you wouldn't need to find a shop to press the new bearing in for you...

The protege just has press in bearings. Everything is serviced separate.

IT'S ALIVE!!!! Got the car towed to an engine shop today with a mechanic that knew his s***. 6 hours later, the car is driving like new. All it was was a couple of faulty injectors and fried spark plug wires. I'm going to firestone tomorrow to argue and get my money back for the "diagnostic" they ran. All the retards had to do was plug the scanner in and pull the code for the flashing CEL.

Awesome! So glad it wasn't anything too serious!
